I think you oversimplify it, and that isn't useful. Past and present history makes evident that religion isn't about love.

Also, love isn't the purpose of our existence, as it contains the seeds of fear. We are here, on Earth, among others, to learn to master our emotions so we can reach a state of awareness where's no fear.

A large majority of the worlds inhabitants are enslaved to it without any realization, I would stand firm to assume Religion = Self Destruction.

The purpose of religion is control. Remember that in many phases of the past (and likely in some countries still to this day) the church and government were in bed together. Religion was designed to keep the masses under the thumb of authority.

Religion does not want individuals asking questions or analyzing their feelings or pondering the dogma. Religion needs unquestioning sheep. Sheep who give part of their income to support the "devoted" hierarchy of the church.

And what do the masses get in exchange? Vague hopes that "the meek shall inherit the earth," and of a heavenly life with God and angels after this pitiful life ends. It is used to keep the poor and struggling forever accepting of their lot.

Faith and spirituality do not need religion. Religion depends largely on ignorance and blind adherence to rules. Religion = strict teacher with a large wooden ruler, spewing rules and demanding obedience.

The purpose of religion is to invite one to consider the possibility of the existence of God or the divine. It is the invitation to a journey.

Organized Religion?

That's a whole different story.

This organizational system is more a business, that dabbles in the religious.

Also organised religion really serves the why of the organization.
