Meditation and OBE

I know that when you meditate if you reach a very deep state you can have an OBE but I tried so many times and I had no OBE, I reached that very deep state that I call "I am" where I am just awareness, but I can seem to leave my body.. do you know some ways? I know that I can find my answer if I read a book about this subject but I want to learn on my own.

It is great that you want to learn on your own. Everyone has different ideas on what works. It is best to practice and find out for yourself. I am in the same position as you. When you think you are relaxed enough do an ap technique. Any technique will work but it may not work straight away. You have to keep doing it until it works.

The problem I have is I think I will relax a bit more then I fall asleep. You can ap by just meditating but you need to stay focused and not drift off.

To avoid falling asleep you have to be rested. Also, you need to not overdo the relaxation part. What is needed is just a light trance.

First of all there is no substitute for practice. Whatever techniques you choose, they should be tried at least several times a week, if not every night. I found that after practicing for several weeks that I would naturally awaken about 3 AM, and then was able to make an attempt. This worked well for me, because it is very quiet and undisturbing. You may OBE immediately, or it could take months, but it will have the greatest chance of happening with diligence and perseverance.

Second is intention. Before bed each night, repeat to yourself with clear intention, "I want to have an OBE. I want to exit my body." Repeat this 5 or 6 times, and then go to bed. This will set the intention in your subconscious. As you make your attempts, this intention will always be in the back of your mind without you having to think about it which will be of immense help. Later on, you can use this technique to set the intention for specific OBE goals such as meeting your guides, projecting to the astral plane, travel to a distant place, etc..

Third is relaxation. It will be very difficult to have an OBE if your body is riddled with stress. Each night as I began my attempt I would start with my feet, clenching them and then completely relaxing them, then my calves, then my thighs, etc.., working my way up my body all the way to the top of my head. You can find more detail about this on the net.

Lastly is the actual OBE technique. For me, it was all about dissasociation with physicality and my physical body. I would lay on my back and begin breathing very deeply. I would inhale very slowly, then exhale in a quick relaxed rush. This would actually give me the sensation that I was falling. I would increase that by imagining I was falling into infinity. I would imagine my bones were turning to jell. I would look at nothing, but focus my eyes on a spot a few inches in front of my forhead. I would otherwise totally let go of all physical sensation, totally surrender my body to float away. I wouldn't actually think of anything, but let my preparations and technique take their course.

Other techniques work for other people.

For me, it took a while to realize that I can exit when I’m in that trance state. I don’t know what I was waiting on necessarily but I finally just tried and actually felt like I was physically getting up out of bed. I didn’t know I had been successful until I turned around and saw that my physical and astral bodies were separated.

So I guess don’t be afraid to try. A failed attempt is a learning experience. ;)

Awesome tips right there.

I would add

* It's good to know what causes you to have A.P. and what brain-wave state you gotta be in to induce A.P.

Why it works for people easiest when they wake up and then project is because they most likely just woke up after a cycle and R.E.M. (dream stage) being the last one, allowing the person to easily project because the brain is still in that dream state more or less.
Better for newbies, because even if it's possible to do it through meditation, it's harder like that.


* Breathing technique, as stated above. To induce the state in your body you have to emulate the breathing pattern of being asleep. (Inhaling deeply and breathing out fast. Rapid and shallow.Of course again, do it naturally, don't strain.)

* Try new locations to sleep at. Unusual positions. Naps. Sleeping on the back.
