It is a religion - the pagan tradition of witchcraft started by Gerald Gardner back in the late 1940's and 50's. It is an eclectic tradition taking some of its material from the Golden Dawn magical society and other magical societies such as the O.T.O. and the works of Aleister Crowley and other material used by the nine covens of Magister George Pickingill.
Today it is even more eclectic and has been watered down and whitewashed until it's hardly recognizable. It has many branches and offshoots and is very popular.
Wiccans follow what's called the Wheel of the Year with eight Sabbats or festivals - the equinoxes and solstices and Imbolc on Feb 2nd; Beltane on the eve of April 30th; Lammas or Lughnasadh on August 1st and Samhain (also known as Hallowe'en) on October 31st.
Wiccans, by celebrating these festivals and also honouring the full moon try to be in tune with the seasons and cycles of Mother Earth.
Wicca honours a goddess and a god.

Wicca is a new branch on an ancient tree.

For me, it's a religious path that keep us in tune with nature, and the changing of the seasons. Most of us in the modern world need that connection, and miss it sorely.
