Squirrels

Hello;

I was in bed for a nap about thirty minutes or so when I saw a squirrel right through my window. I gave a quick glimpse and just fell asleep. After I finished taking my nap I asked myself was there a squirrel on my window?

But, I couldn't get a clear mind if there was and thought it to be a dream. Then, there it was again right outside trying to enter through my window. I guess I wasn't dreaming.

Can someone briefly explain any significance of squirrels?

They are very sweet and flirty. They have a fun and curious energy about them. If you sit still enough, they will come around to you. I adore them

Hello

Thanks Clover. I can see what the squirrel was trying to tell me. I should have fun and not take things serious and let go of things that can be a burden.

I think that is perfect interpretation.

I seem to vaguely remember, in the Correspondences (I read about many years ago) that Squirrels are animals sacred to Mercury, or the forces associated with Mercury. So you could read about that if you are interested.

I like Squirrels for their dratted cheekiness. They are not shy violets!

But have an issue with very noisy squirrels who like to party at about 5am in my loft (just above my head when I am asleep) They roll what sound like Avocado stones like skittle balls! They also have arguments up there and noisy conversations which make me get a big stick and rap on the ceiling telling them to shut up!

LOL. Too cute, Toby.Wondering if you have walnut trees near by. I have a big one on my front yard. They bust nuts all day.:) Interesting about Mercury.

And your right, they are not shy. They are very flirty, they will run in front of you and wag their bushy tails. They want the attention for sure.

No, unfortunately, the nearest Walnut tree is about a half mile away. The Squirrels would have a fight with me to get the green walnuts! heh heh!

But there are lots of hazelnuts here around my house.

Hello Tobi;

I would of thought squirrels to correspond with the Norse god Ratatoskr not a Roman god. Jokes aside, I have no clue why squirrels are known to be sacred to Mercury. I will further look into it.

Hello Tobi;

Ratatosk in Norse Mythology is known as a messenger, he constantly goes up and down from the Tree of Life (Yggdrasil) keeping the hatred between the eagle and the dragon (Nidhug). When Nidhug says a curse or an insult to the eagle, Ratatosk will go up the tree and inform the eagle, and vice versa. I think Nidhug was the one who gnawed the tree, not sure about the squirrel doing so.

I just realized Mercury/Hermes and Ratatosk are known for being messengers, travelers, tricksters and gossips; perhaps, these are several of the qualities that correspond with the squirrels?
