I only posted but did not read the webpages and was as surprised as anyone to read that the Buddha was crucified.

Hello! Abbey,
Glad you found what in Law of Attraction you are looking for.
By something in Common among major organized religions?
GOD and Control, but let's not start on the later word;
I found the topic God and it's following series a good start.

The section of the book to which I copied the URL deals only with the cross in religions.
The whole book is worth a read though. ( http://www.sacred-texts.com/eso/sta/ )
The asking price nowadays for a copy of the book is about $ 600.00.

The prevalent idea that the reverence for the cross is limited to the Christian world is disproved by even the most superficial investigation of its place in religious symbolism. The early Christians used every means possible to conceal the pagan origin of their symbols, doctrines, and rituals.

There are plenty of religions that don't believe in God.
Religions are a part of humans and their societies, the idea of them controlling people is a conspiracy theory type view. People just believe in powers unseen, like almost everyone in this forum, and tend to hang around others who believe the same. Any type of group that can be formed has certain 'controls' because it has a specific view on something and a purpose.

It doesn't point out exact parallels, but it provides a succinct summary of all religions and it makes it easier to see similarities.
The site won't let me post URLs for some reason so I apologize for the butchered address D:

Abbey, don't let anyone scare you away from looking at anything because they belittle it. Don't close your mind down but enjoy looking at all kinds of POV. Something will speak to you.
I recommend the Zeitgeist movie because it's an easy introduction to the concept of astrotheology. It's the idea that religious figures are symbols derived from the heavens (i.e. the son is really the sun, the 12 disciples represent the 12 signs of he zodiac, the death and resurrection is sun's three day lowest point at winter solstice etc).
I recommend doing a little research into Zecharia Sitchin's ideas that perhaps religion is the worship of ET visitors.
I also recommend looking into the work of Michael Tsarion. He has a bunch of videos on YouTube as well. His work is also out of the box and fascinating.
