Meaning of life

Hello,

Recently it was brought to mind something I heard before.

I believe it was Joseph Campbell who said something like; ( not directly quoting here)

Life is not about finding meaning, but about what you experience through living.

Which brings back the thought that living life gives meaning to life and the meanings being sought or thought to be sought are unfolding right before our eyes.

We and all living beings give meaning to life.

What are the thoughts and insights on this?

"Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it. The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning". Joseph Campbell

I read the quote, I think I get it and can write something insightful, then I re read it and realise the insightful thing I was going to say has already been covered in this beautifully deep and insightful statement.

You can pull it apart and put it back together again but you will lose the beauty and simplicity of those four very short sentences.

Yes, can pull the words apart, but as with any beautiful quote or writing find inspiration through the words.

So, find it to be a simple sharing of what is inspired.

Interesting are the views of ancient mysteries or Eastern teachings about spiritual evolution. Development souls to higher forms of existence.
And people who obtain spiritual knowledge coud be in next life between supernatural beings. See Theurgy by Iamblichus of Chalkis, or for example Ocean of Stories by Somadeva and many other books.

Hi Lumpino,

Never heard of Theurgy, but looked it up and skimmed through some information.
Sounds interesting. I also find the development of muti-a Gods Faith's into mono-God.

Divine inspiration or man made creations to explain the divine? Maybe a bit of both?

Well gives me some things to look into.

Thank you

Hello,

Used the quote and what it brought to me as a launching point.

At present I hold beliefs, but they alter and change and some just drift away.

There are are those that say to me life is about finding a connection with Jesus or some other teaching.

Found meaning in the teachings as inspiration, but find myself not holding onto the practice and/or created institution.

Which places me feeling some simply not sure how to approach me on the subject or express in his/her way view points.

Through the years find living life itself brings meaning to life.
For if not lived, not placed into action, then what is the point?

Find also that it intertwines with in the consciousness and at its base directing to the same place. The self as an individual, the group as living here, and the spirit as giving life and inspiration.

All has meaning, all of life, all playing and at times perhaps testing ones strength and courage. In return showing another has those same potentials and energy ( if you will) to direct and inspire.

Just placing this here, these thoughts and reflections.

Any further thoughts, reflections, insights are welcomed.

Personally I find the phrase rather empty, but that's just because I tend to see the glass half empty in everything lol.
