Here is a great article by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on prana....

https://www.artofliving.org/in-en/wi...e-sheets/yagna

Quote:
Yagna creates energy, energy creates consciousness, awareness. Heightened awareness brings you close to the reality and the reality is a witness.

To realize that everything is happening you need heightened awareness. And to bring about heightened awareness you have to increase the prana.

Prana can be increased through:

Fasting, fresh food
Pranayamas, Kriya, meditation
Silence
Cold water baths
Total exhaustion, not letting sleep take over
Emotional peaks
Presence of the Master
Singing and chanting
Giving without a givership, service without a doership

All of these together is Yagna. -- Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

So we can see here that prana heightens awareness or consciousness which in turn brings one closer to reality or Self/God which is the witness.

i agree. circumstances happen until there is a witness. that witness is bliss and silence as it is causeless and always. everything else comes and go. like clothing people wear. another way that wasn't mentioned is circumstances can also be life experinces that result in surrendering.

Yeah. This is true and very wisely put.

Circumstances keeps changing while the Self or Awareness within is of a permanent nature.

The ego however is attached to the external events or objects. Fear and suffering arises out of the knowledge that all pleasurable, liked external objects and people are impermanent and transient by nature. However there is a positive to this as well.

Purpose of suffering is to connect you to your Self (Awareness). It indicates that you got carried away by all the transient things around you. - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

So yes, certain circumstances can also be life experiences that result in surrendering.

An interesting article by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar highlighting how the increase in prana results in greater happiness, creativity and better self-regulation of the mind and emotions.

There is little use in having a machine which you cannot operate without a manual. Spiritual knowledge is like the manual for life. Just like to drive a car, we have to learn how to operate the steering wheel, the clutch, the brake and so on, to move towards stability of the mind, we must know the basic principles about our life force energy. This is the whole science of pranayama. When our prana or life force keeps fluctuating, our mind also goes up and down through the roller coaster of emotions. - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Quote:
As prana rises in the body, one starts to feel a transformation as direct experience and not as a forced mental exercise. One starts becoming happier, creative and more in command of their mind and emotions.- Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Insightful article by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on the nature of prana, its importance and how higher prana levels is an antidote to depression....

https://www.artofliving.org/qa21

Quote:
Animals have got six units of prana. Human beings are capable of holding from seven to 16 units of prana. The expression of prana is the whole universe. When prana is lower than, that’s when you feel depressed. When prana goes further low, then you feel suicidal. When prana is normal, you feel normal. When prana is higher, you feel enthusiastic. When prana is very high, you feel energetic and blissful. That is why, when people are depressed, or feeling low just giving counselling doesn’t work, what needs to be done is to raise the level of prana. When prana is high there is joy, vibrancy and understanding. When prana is low, the mind starts complaining and then depression, lethargy, suicidal tendencies arise. All is play and display of prana. ~ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
