Meditation means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

Some call guided visualizations meditations.
Other call attention focused on a single object meditation.
Others call bare witnessing meditation.
In church contemplation is often referred to as meditation.
Silently thinking a mantra is called meditation.

With the renewal of the search for spirituality meditation has become a buzzword that can mean a plethora of different things, All of them will give rise to some experience one way or another.

So i think that in order to talk about meditation one has to be specific in what exactly is meant by the words one uses.

It is very difficult to articulate. I did write a post, but I felt best not submit it.

I completely agree. The word "enlightenment" has become almost meaningless because it means different things to different people.

Unfortunately there is a lot of glamour around spiritual teachers, and people like to claim that this teacher or that teacher is enlightened. I suspect that none of us has reached the level where we can judge what anyone else has attained. But we still like to claim that we have sat at the feet of an enlightened teacher.

In the end, it does not really matter. All we can do is work with our own consciousness, and if we find inspiration from any teacher then that can only help us on our journey.

Peace.

IMHO proper meditation is pure consciousness, that is consciousness without content. Being reflected back on itself.

It is an experience of sorts.

To me, meditation is being consciously aware of the present moment and letting your soul search through many different avenues of the Divine/God/Universe. It's very different for everyone, however.

It teaches me to be calm, loving, and aware through a powerful intuition. So yeah... I'd definitely say it's an experience.
