Sure.............Compassion............I don't see/feel animals as any less or different than me. When they suffer.....I suffer with them.
There is no desire whatsoever to kill them and eat them at their expense.
This is honestly who I am. I understand that everyone is not this way and I have no thoughts on, if we "should" be vegetarians or not.
It just bothers me so I don't do it.
thanks for asking............James

That's beautiful.

But why wouldn't this kind of compassion be a higher principle for all humans? An ideal to strive for?

That's how I see it. Am I wrong to strive for compassion? Am I wrong to expect it of others?

These are honest questions.

The first one is the most legit.

Erato - I don't think it's wrong to expect compassion from others. What I see is people selfishly pushing what THEY think is good for others onto those people. It's happening here in the U.S. all under the guise of 'for the greater good'. Let people have the FREEDOM to choose what they feel is BEST FOR THEM.

It is very selfish to push someone's ideals (simply because they work for THEM) onto others. If someone has found what works best for them - let them alone.

I know that some veg's will rant and rave about selfishness...but in the end if they are pushing their thing onto someone who has already established what works best for themselves...who is the selfish one in the end really?
