The reason he must return is to demonstrate the same thing to us. He would NOT entrust himself to those who came to him. Why? John 3 tells you. They must be born again over the next 2 days (2000 years). We are all here today at one time to see the fulfillment of Revelation 1:7. Unless he comes back to make peace (put the sword down), then, as you say, he is false. We must see it, not simply read it. From that moment, we choose based on truth, not ignorance (our own pretext). As it says, he will then explain all things to us.

If salvation were up to us, no one would be saved. As it turns out, it's not even up to him. His Father is the key. We heard the Father's voice in the NT, not the voice of Yahweh (Son) from the Old Testament. Jesus paid this:

Genesis 9:6 (HIS sin)

Genesis 9:6Names of God Bible (NOG)

6 Whoever sheds human blood,
by humans his blood will be shed,
because in his image, Elohim made humans.

Who was he? Son of Man (Adam). He paid the same sin he suffered at the hands of Yahweh (rib / blood / shed from the foundation / image divided). Adam's old nature was his Spirit (Yahweh / Yama). His risen spirit overcame the old. Yahweh was his own scapegoat, as we all must follow. Our old nature in exchange for the new. Even the Son had this to accomplish.

1 Corinthians 15:20-21New International Version (NIV)

20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
