For me finding solutions to issues in my life is often a process of letting go inside and not thinking too much about that issue. Quieting your thoughts and moving your attention to your heart in silence; with as little thought as possible; moving to the center of your being, can get you in touch with your own inner source.
That inner source contains all of the answers to your own particular life. Many call it “intuition,” which literally means interior learning or interior teaching. The thing is it is best to be quiet inside and feel what your heart is trying to tell you. The answer may not come in words but rather in a very strong feeling, or a gentle prompting. Practice communing with your deeper Self; which means communicating with your inner self on a different, a non-mental, level.
That is why it is best to quiet your mind, a technique often done by many who meditate. When the mind is quiet, you can be more open to what the universe, God, etc., is trying to share with you. This is my experience. But do not have any expectations because expectations can get in the way of you being freely in that flow of energy, that river, which flows through us. It is that flow which contains all that you need, or want to know.
We all have an internal dialogue going on in our head; a mental dialogue. Human beings constantly talk to themselves; we talk ourselves into stuff and out of stuff. But there is also another dialogue, which we need to give attention to; it is the dialogue that we have with our heart. When I say “heart,” I am talking about the center of our being; deep within our ability to feel, far beyond thoughts and emotions. There is an internal dialogue there that is also constant. It is the dialogue that we have with our greater, more deeper, Self.

Patience is something which you have to build; in fact in spiritual development
we are building our own inner temple, and patience is one of the building blocks
of that temple. Learn to be still inside, especially in our mind, and that stillness
will nurture patience.
We can experience stillness while doing activities in this world. Mediate while
standing in the grocery checkout line, or on your lunch break, etc. Build up that
silence within you and in that inner silence there is a stillness which brings patience.
Psalm 46 in the Christian Bible has a verse that I think is applicable; "Be still and know that I am God."

I recently read a book called The way of the Pilgrim. It got me trying to talk to my literal heart as I go throughout the day. Kind of like a mantra, except instead of your brain talking you're letting your heart say it, to your heartbeat. Kind of like granting your heart power to speak. Then you can try asking it questions.
I think it had lead me to some interesting meditation experiences.

because meditation is not using the mind, it is not problem solving. meditation is taking a break from problem solving so you can approach the problem better after meditation is over. If you try to solve a problem with meditation, you are not really meditating, just engaging thoughts in a different way. Meditation is taking a break from thoughts. the thoughts come in meditation, but the idea is to not follow them, not engage them, and thus get a break from them without ignoring them or trying to run away from them.
meditate. then solve your problem after you meditate, 10-30 minutes after not immediately after.

Got it !
I guess I've been confused. I thought that as one can meditate on the attributes of God, for example, one can also meditate on a specific problem.... Hmmm

nope. And one does not meditate on the attributes, they concentrate on one thing and through the concentration build the necessary skill.
the point is not to better understand the object of concentration, although it might be a side-effect of the meditation, the point is to learn to better concentrate.
Concentration is a foundation skill. When it is mastered higher levels of meditation can be accessed.
