No not a misspelling ,but how does Spiritism,as practised in S.Aamerica, differ from Spiritualism,is it just a regional development, basically the same.

This is a wide topic to consider and might best be begun by reading 'The Spirits Book' by (pseudonym) Allan Kardec. Compare that with one of the books of compiled modern teachings by Silver Birch through medium Maurice Barbanell and small differences will emerge.

I learned from each source in close succession. In essence there are few significant differences.

I'm new to it all. . . but it seems to me that the major difference is the emphasis on reincarnation. For Spiritists, it seems to be central to their beliefs. For Spiritualists, something that you can take or leave.

I'm just starting a more intensive study of Spiritism and will be starting with the Spirits' Book by Kardec. Of course I have also previously read Emanuel Swedenborg and Theosophical literature by Mme. Blavatsky so hopefully I should be able to navigate it. I 've also found some online Spiritist study resources which I will be trying out.
