UK MPs urge us to eat less meat.

World hunger could be eased if we stopped eating meat. Not to mention the end to the suffering caused by farming and slaughtering animals.

That's true, I did'nt see in the article where it mentioned slaughtering animals just where it talked about feeding cattle. It's a good idea, even if it's not for compassionate reasons. I hope the People will do this..

And slavery was a part of man's life from the dawn of civilisation, but we dropped it when we realised just how wrong it was.

Finally, something which we agree on.

How wrong you are!
We are all slaves, it's just that you're lead to believe you are not!
The neck tie is a major sign of slavery!

But for the sake of some small mouthful of flesh we deprive a soul of the sun and light and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy - Plutarch

Exploit then from birth, (usually) give them a thoroughly miserable life and then a terrifying, horrible death....

And trash the environment while 'we' are at it as well...

Incredibly, 30% of the world's (ice-free) land mass is used for livestock production (grazing/growing animal feed)

In UK, since the underhand practises of meat products containing horsemeat (without this being declared on the label), many have become vegetarian.

There are many arguments for reducing meat eating - not least of which is saturated fats which have been linked with heart disease.

I don't wear a tie. Also to compare modern life with that of a real slave is self indulgence of the very worst kind. Wake up yourself Mr Payne. Our lives are soft and luxurious compared to those of slaves. Besides which, this thread is about meat eating - not whether or not the wearing of neck ties is as bad as the wearing of chains.

Wow...so much erroneous info here.

First off, there are still child slaves e.g. in India working in sweatshops.

I don't feel like a slave...I guess you do though. I transformed my life (from a fatalistic mindset and depression) by exploring and subsequently rejoicing in freewill and positive thinking. Do you know about this?

Neck tie is a sign of conformity...hardly slavery!!! I can think of much worse examples of slavery.

Back to to the topic - I am not really convinced about the article.

Whilst eating less meat might be a good and healthy thing - perhaps, it's not the key to end global poverty.

I would far rather that the government focused eating nutritiously, encouraged organic crops, better supermarket relationships with farmers so they had a better deal. But that is me on my soap box.
