k, your test is straightforward, but some might see it as rather offensive. But it is not my place to dissuade anyone from their chosen path.

I think that Guru is someone who GOD has chosen himself. There is not many gurus in this world, maybe 0 true guru. Guru nanak was a true guru, chosen by god. Anyway, my advice is that let god himself be your guru :) read holy scriptures :)

I agree about Mother Meera. She is an avatar of the Adishakti.

By representative of God I mean s/he can hear God or have his body be controlled by God. Or instead of God, s/he can hear a person who can hear God, or so forth.

Kralaro, I am in a similar position. To a certain point, the internet has been my Guru. I mean I have learned so much about Hindu philosophy and less so temple protocol. Once I finally worked up my nerve to go to a temple I began to meet people that would educate me on the protocol. I guess what I am trying to say is that sometimes a guru is simply that one who tells you what you need at that time.

Even though I am giving you advice, I am sort of also talking to myself. Because I wonder how will I know the guru when/if I do meet him/her? For that matter, how do I know if I even need one?? I would love nothing better than for a person to walk up to me and announce that they are from God and have come to guide me, but unfortunately, it just isn't that simple which is why I constantly pray for wisdom and discernment.

There are enlightened masters like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (Art of Living foundation), Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev (Isha Foundation), Mata Amritanandamayi, Anandmurti Gurumaa, Karunamayi Amma ,Brahmarshi Prem Nirmal,Madhukar, Mooji who are approachable guru's and help earnest students.

If I may give a suggestion in this matter, I would first exhort you to inculcate good study and work habits necessary to be a good or ideal disciple/student now, so that when the Guru appears, you can study, assimilate and implement his teachings meticulously in a short time span.

It is these study and work habits, which distinguish the excellent student from the mediocre or poor students, as per my observation.

Do you all know the story of Vivekananda meeting Ramakrishna?
Good stories can be repeated, right!?

So V. goes all over to gurus asking 2 questions, "Have you seen God and
can you show me God..."
Many gurus seeing he came from some wealth wanted him in their hermitage or ashram...they would
blather about and V. would
ask again...
"Have you seen God and can you show me God..." No.

But, then, one said, Who you want to see is there...Ramakrishna.

So, V finds him sweeping the floor with his hair...and he asks the same thing. Ramakrishna simply says,
Yes..nothing much else was offered...maybe
do service there in the ashram.

So V knows that there is a Holiday Monday which Ramakrishna would not be aware of...V thinks.
I will show him how earnest I am by camping out in front of his door all weekend, and when he sees that
I don't go to work Monday....he will show me God!

So, indeed R. sees him still there and says, Follow me.

R goes to the water and into the water above his waist and beckons
V to join him. Where, R grabs the back of his hair
and plunges V's head underwater. He holds it there and holds it...til the last ounce of breath is leaving Vivekananda!

He pulls V's head up...V is gasping for air.

Ramakrishna asks, So, what were you thinking just then?
V says gasping still, My breath! I wanted my life!

Ramakrishna says, When you want to know God as much as you wanted your breath I will show you.

End of that story.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

When you recognise godliness in a person, then you have your teacher and your guru ....
