It could be similar to yoga nidra, but it doesn't 'work on energys'. In that a person wants to feel the body, one just feels the body the way it happens to feel.

I think schedule time for practice and do it no matter 'what you feel like' is generally optimal (not that I necessarily practice what I preach). And general practice to bring awareness back to 'reality' of what this moment is like right now stops distractions so we can 'see what this is like'.

In the type of meditation in the OP there is just feeling through the body and relaxing as you go. Mantras and visualisations wouldn't suit this meditation style because these two are generated intentionally. Candle gazing and mindful eating would fit this type because you just watch what is already-there with full attention.
