Gnostic question: Is this evidence of Demiurge?
John 8:42-44 (CEB) Jesus replied, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God. Here I am. I haven't come on my own. God sent me. Why don't you understand what I'm saying? It's because you can't really hear my words. Your father is the devil. You are his children, and you want to do what your father wants He was a murderer from the beginning. He has never stood for the truth, because there's no truth in him. Whenever that liar speaks, he speaks according to his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies."
Now if you were to ask the Pharisees that he is talking to who their father is they would say, "Jehovah." Isn't the Demiurges name Jehovah?

I definitely see where you are going pertaining to Gnosticism. However, I feel like in this instance, Jesus was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the Pharisees by exposing their true nature and of whom they are actually serving despite them claiming to be Jehovah's people. This is sort of like the modern day dogmatic Bible thumping extremists who might claim the title of Christian, and yet their hearts and minds are out of alignment with Divine Love which is the epitome of what Jesus Christ taught and represents. Ironically, sometimes they spew more hateful rhetoric than those of whom they scorn. Heartbreakingly... little did they know, they are in fact serving the devil in a very clever masquerade. |
