I feel like real mystics transcend religion and cultural differences. They can receive and comprehend the Great Mystery and put it into human words.
This doesn't mean they are correct on every little thing. In fact they differ on a lot of things depending on what religion they were brought up on. But that doesn't matter. Religion is man made.
Almost all mystics have witnessed or contacted the Universal Christ Consciousness, the part of the Godhead that interacts with and within human beings. Their contemplation and meditation leads to this contact.
Francis of Assisi, Theresa of Avila, Ramakrishna, Saint Clare, Swami Shankara, Chaitanya, Thomas Aquinas, modern day Father Thomas Keating!, Confucius, and so many more.
Ironically majority of them are pure of heart or "not of this world" thinking.

You said,"This doesn't mean they are correct on every little thing. In fact they differ on a lot of things depending on what religion they were brought up on. But that doesn't matter. Religion is man made."
For me it is just their interpretation and how they perceptive it, but their core message is still the same.
And these two, " But that doesn't matter. Religion is man made."
" Ironically majority of them are pure of heart or "not of this world" thinking."
One cancel's out the other.
