the three columns
I have always felt that we as spiritual folks need some foundation beyond jsut looking pie eyed at our jos stick and trying to feel the oneness.
I like the three columns of buddhism they strike me as a beginning to build upon what do other folks think?

Hi Peteyzen, sounds like atman, brahman and ??, the inner world the outer world and the interface between the two, the father, the son and the holy spirit.
Maybe once the outer is seen as a representation of the inner, the duty becomes less of a duty and more of an artistic creation of greater joy for the self both in and out?

we all have duty of some kind whilst here dreamer and this is the dharma/duty referred to in the jewel. You might have children or a wife/ husband. You get paid to do a job, all of these are duties, physical ones admittedly but non the less duties. Thats what I like abouthte jewels, they deal with physical existence as well as spiritual and the two are intertwined, or so my philospohy believes.

The three gems .
Hello Petyzen,
Yes again i agree with you on the duties in life and how they tie in with the three gems.
We all have duties to be completed and all duties in life correspond to one of the three gems.
A human wishing to move up the spiritual ladder is said to take refuge in the three gems.
In brief---Right action---Right conduct---Right belief.
Light and grace.
Eternity.

peteyzen, i'd have to agree with you.
the three jewels are a great way to start one on the path to nirvana.
they perfectly balance out the needs of both body and soul and even if you are not buddhist, you can always learn and grow alot from these principles.
