I've seen a few of your posts in which you've talked about "People always tell me..." in one or another form. We are eternal beings, We incarnate many times, to learn about ourselves. And to learn about Spirit if you believe in Spirit. It's all just learning and inner growth. Take from others what makes sense to you, and discard the rest. That's all any of us can do. That's all anybody does really. It's not really much of a mystery. It's like school, except nobody's the teacher and everybody's the teacher. And you can choose to study any school lesson you want. Or just spend the day outside at recess.

At seventy three I found out why I am here. (It's I was born to serve God). Moses was eighty when God called him. My wife passed away two weeks ago, I feel so lonely, but God is with me in my heart and mind. I would have never believed this could happen, but I am happy tho. curious

Having an understanding of who you are is in some circles ( quiet a lot actually ) considered important. That said... Everything seems to be a matter a perspective .

My (current) perspective is that I am OK now. I spent most of my egoic life in the not-OK state. I don't know who I am or how to describe my (real) self but I know that I am OK - not perfect, not enlightened, not saved, not blessed - just OK - for now, and that's good enough for me.

That is to say, Once you have developed an understanding of you that sits well enough with you.

I sit well enough with me and I'm not speaking of the ego or false me that occupy most folks lives.

You come across other perspectives of You from external sources. Quiet possibly differing views of how you consider yourself are made apparent from these outside looking in influences.

So just how can you be 100% certain that you are who you consider yourself to be?

I now see that whatever I consider my self to be is what I am and right now, I consider myself to be: OK, happy, complete, lovable and loving.

I suppose a lot of self realization is based upon cognitive bias.

It is difficult in so far as who you think you to be may be in fact quiet different from who you actually are....

LOL, if being "who I actually am" makes me happy, I'll take it. So far, knowing that I actually am NOT my ego, is the best thing that I've found - for now.
