Suggestion

A suggestion for the "Suggestion Box" :)

I post on several other sites, all of which have a simple process for imbedding pictures in one's post. You simply click on the icon for doing so, and you are given the option to select the file/photograph from your system and upload it to the post. No muss, no fuss.

Why is it necessary to use photobucket or any of the other photo sites to post pictures here? Could not the process I describe above be implimented? It would be SO much easier!

The pictures I wish to post are stored on my system as files.. they do not have "urls".

You can embed pictures in a post - use the insert image button. But there's a limit on the number of images you can do this with.

The reason we'd prefer if you used an external photo hosting site is because if you embed the photos directly to SF it uses up bandwidth which costs money. It's expensive and you'll notice there are no ads here or other revenue generators.

I understand it's better off now that Kaere suggetsed it but so can we not have to use photobucket for at least one photo to put in a thread, trust me if I didn't have to use photobucket I would be posting so much more photos that would be so beautiful.

The insert image button requires an url. As I said, none of my pictures have one. They are simply saved on my computer as photo files. I didn't realize it would be costly for SF to provide the kind of simple picture posting other sites employ. They don't have ads on them either, for example wordpress which hosts my Blog site free of charge and does not have any ads what-so-ever. If the system I'm referencing is too expensive to impliment, would it be possible to just make it so one could do a copy of the image they want to share followed by a paste directly into the text box as one does with emails? That would be a whole lot easier!

Me too, Spiritlite! I've never been able to get photobucket (or any of the other photo programs) to work for me, so if that's the only method, I'm out of luck :(

What I've learned to do (WhiteShaman explained how) is once I've sent and saved my photos from my cell phone camera to my email, I save them. Then when I go to cp user and click on avatar or personal picture, I click on the white box that says browser something, it will take you to where your pics are stored and you double click on the one you want to use, then save changes at cp user and it's there, you can do it 2 or 3 times on each post.

If you click the paper clip all you have to do is browse to the picture on your computer. No url is needed.

Yes, it can be costly to host pictures on forums. You may not notice it on other forums because they may not say anything. It also will boil down to how big the forum is. A forum that only has 50 members and has a traffic of 2000 people a day, or month. Will not really feel the impact of the bandwidth of a site that it relatively large like this one is with a membership in the thousands.

When you click the paperclip browse to your file. Then pick upload. You will see that it becomes an attachment to your post. I just tested it, and it does work.
