If the activity in my house is caused by a spirit, then I can vouch that it first began when I was, if not actually a disbeliever, then certainly a fence sitter.

And alleged hauntings do frequently occur to people who are totally disbelievers in any form of life after death.

This would indicate that either:

1) the statement that spirits do not appear to disbelievers isn't correct.

2) alleged hauntings are not caused by spirits.

3) alleged hauntings are caused by spirits who for some reason don't know or don't understand the rules, or who don't wish to abide by them.

This is just my experience over the years and information that I have received from my father after his crossing over. Earthbound spirits or waywards have died but they have not gone into the light yet. They can do things against your belief systems and you may or may not see the effects of their presence. Our brains can erase things that we see sometimes. I have seen that before. Those who have gone into the light have another set of rules that they follow because we are in school down here learning lessons. Those who have gone into the light no longer wear the overcoat of ego so to speak. Waywards will be more concerned with what do you WANT. And those who have gone into the light, if they interact with you at all, will be more concerned with what you NEED.

Sounds like my "No. 3 above" is correct, then: these spirits are earthbounds or waywards who aren't abiding by the rules.
