I have had a vegan lifestyle in the past, but not during my lifting, however, I know of vegans who lift at the elite level. They do the same things nutritionally, like get a ton of protein to facilitate muscle gains, and regulate their calorie intake to keep their weight optimal for their competitive weight class. The basic nutrient chemistry is the same for everyone, but people can get those nutrients as vegans, veges or omnivores. I would consider a more plant based approach to training nutrition for myself, and I train a couple of vegetarians who get protein from quinoa, tufu, legumes, whole grains, oats, lentils etc.
