meditating for energy?

when I meditate, I focus on raising the amount of energy in my body. I have made a lot of progress with this; I can make almost any part of my body hum with energy. I achieved this through intent and concentration. when I meditate for a long time, I feel as if my arms have expanded to become as big as the room i'm sitting in, but nothing has come from that sensation. now I must ask myself: what's next? can I use this energy to cultivate an ability? or have I been wasting my time?
[any tips or guidance is appreciated. :) i have meditated on my chakras, but only managed to make them hum with energy.]

Meditation is excellent for an energy boost, especially if you perform it out in nature. Personally, when I meditate up in the mountains I can perceive the birds above me and in the trees.

Maybe you want to consider learning more about qigong, internal energy work, etc. Robert Bruce writes from a very practical perspective. Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming has written a lot regarding Chinese traditions of qigong and other practices. A guy named Lee Holden is one example of someone has done lots of videos where he leads you through a particular exercise involving qigong or tai chi or something along those lines. There are videos on youtube of Steven Ridley going through different qigong sequences that are easy to follow.

There are a lot of specific practices that you can get examples of, but I think what's most helpful is to then use those examples to become more creative in the way you use and relate to the practice, making it more your own. You can do any of the things you're suggesting, you can accrue energy, you can release energy, you can do anything you can imagine with it. Breath work can help enhance/speed things along if you're feeling stuck in your meditation/energy work practice. Just keep exploring, and as much as possible keep your center throughout the experience. Breath awareness is real helpful, but there are lots of other ways to stillness, everything is individual.

And with abilities (you can look up "siddhis" if you're curious), usually it's believed that those who intentionally set out to attain them, never do. The Taoist phrase "Desireless, one sees the mystery. Desiring, one sees only the manifestation." But with meditation and deep stillness and heart-centeredness, along with significant qigong and/or who knows what else, anything might be possible. You just have to come at it from the sides...

very best of luck to you with your practice(s)!
