I have a close relationship to krishna, he is always with me, so I know what you mean. I also feel that krishna shiva, meera, baba, brahma, all are the same thing, i know this really, the same thing wearing different clothes. But like you , I warm to one aspect, and what a personal and special relationship that is.

I think I read the Bhagavad Gita everyday...I have different
translations and interpretations in different rooms, close at hand.

Yes, whatever Name is used, whatever Form one feels attracted
to doesn't matter to me...
Krishna, Vishnu...All the same.

He who keeps Me ever present and seeks Me always will surely find Me.

Or Old Testament, Isaiah

He who keeps his mind on me, I will give him perfect peace.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

I'm a Shaivite, which means Shiva is God, period. It's quite simple. I also worship Ganesha and Murugan. I don't really understand how you could lose touch with Shiva, as He is simultaneously inside you and outside you. You mean you moved somewhere where there was no temple, or you couldn't construct a shrine room?

I worship Nataraja, and Lingam, and rarely the Puranic anthropomorphic form, which is far more common, especially in North India.

The BG, by the way, isn't a Saiva scripture, although we have utmost respect for it. All Hindus are my brothers/sisters.

Aum Namasivaya

I'm retired, so it's easy for me to get to temple a lot, do daily sadhana etc. But when you're a student or working, its much much harder to keep Siva in mind much. I think it's important to do something every day though, be it a small prayer before partaking of food, practising Namasivaya every time you walk alone, etc. We can build little reminders into daily life.

It's not that hard to 'contact' Siva, but you may not know it. Even in Aum, Siva is there. I worship him in 3 perfections.. absolute causal reality, underlying substratum, and primal soul. Because he emanated you, you are identical, that part of you called the Self, not the ego.
