vegan

i was a veggi for 12 years ,then a vegan for 12 years but i neglected a lot of minerals and was suffering health wise ,spirit told me i needed to take vitamin B complex and extra calcium as my spine was getting weak and i would soon have major problems with it . i feel that vegans would be better to look for vegan B COMPLEX pills and calcium tablets as well .

I always make sure to take a multivitamin to make sure I am getting enough minerals and nutrients, no matter what my diet looks like. I have found that if I do not take them, I just do not have the energy and feel lethargic.. It has been said for those that are vegetarian, vegan, raw foodists that b12 was weak in their diets. But others debate that it is not.

For one to be a vegan calcium would probably be a good supplement to take. As you would not be getting it from dairy. I don't know if you can get calcium form rice dream or almond milk.

All diets of whatever description need to be planned and balanced. And given the depleted nutrient levels in the soil a quality supplement is a wise idea.

Incidentally a recent scientific study found 40% of the general population involved in the study had low levels of vitamin B-12. (9% had an outright deficiency.)

Almonds do contain calcium. So does Tofu....sesame seeds...Tahini (gorgeous stuff!)...Flax seeds (which also contain Omega 3)....dark leafy greens like spinach, kale, spring cabbage...Brazil nuts...
Those Vegan foods are highest in Calcium. There are others that contain smaller amounts.

Thanks Whitewing,
I have only been a Vegan for about a year and I used to take the suppliants but I have been bad about them for half of the year. I was thinking about going raw but my son is very allergic to all nuts, so can not have that around. What do you think of soy milk?
