Chest Congestion! Help?!
So I'm not sure if I'm developing a slight case of bronchitis or not, but since Friday I've been getting more and more chest congestion. I've tried hot teas, soups, warm pillow on my chest (which helped), and I'm going to also not smoke in order to try and nip this in the butt.
Does anyone know of any natural home remedies to help with chest congestion and sore throat?
Anything would be helpful

For chest congestion, raw garlic is excellent in loosening things up and clearing the lungs. It is also nature's antibiotic and a blood purifier. It is a bit anti-social I know but you can chew fresh parsley after taking it and this will sweeten the breath. Consider making garlic butter to have on toast.
A steam inhalation is also beneficial. I don't know whether USA has Oil Of Olbas (obtainable from health shops and good chemists)? It has menthol, eucalyptus oil & thyme to name a few of the natural beneficial ingredients. Drop some of this oil (as directed) into the almost boiling water in a deep bowl and inhale deeply - with a towel covering your head and the bowl. About 10 mins. You will definitely feel the improvement. Even without Oil Of Olbas this will still have some benefit - or throw in a lot of dried thyme into the water; this too has a therapeutic effect.
For sore throats, let a teaspoon of thick honey (not clear) slowly trickle down the throat. This is what is in those throat sweets and is far more effective than that (+ without the chemicals and sugar!)

Just make sure you get raw honey, preferably local. A lot of the stuff they sell in stores is made mostly of corn syrup.

I use to use 'Potters Vegetable Cough Remover' (was a sufferer with asthma and bronchial trouble) it was fabulous, they do one specifically for the chest

supposedly for the upper respiritory tract
But the cough remover did the trick for me and it was half the price, felt as if I had a new pair of lungs.

I totally agree with this one! If you can't find any of the oils, etc, you can also put some Vicks VapoRub in the water - it will have the same effect!
Other than that - when needed, I still stick with good old Buckley's Cough Syrup :) It is mostly all natural ingredients - and like the commercials say:
"It tastes awful...but it works"

1) Yes, garlic is excellent for all chest ailments.
2) Excellent, but ...don't go outside afterwards, esp. not if the air is cold, or you'll have laryngitis for a week!

Vitamin C and zinc are very good for sore throats
The natural antibiotics grapefruit seed extract (the best natural health product I've ever taken) - 12 drops in a cup of water, drink through a straw - and olive leaf extract are both excellent.
If the problem is in the throat take the GSE. If it's gone down on your chest, take the OLE.

I used to have chronic bronchitis and though it's not the most pleasant remedy, taking about a teaspoon or two of cayenne pepper with boiling water (and maybe honey and lemon/orange/grapefruit juice) really helps to relieve coughing and chest congestion. Also, taking zinc at the first sign of the problem and until it is gone helps me with colds and coughs.

Drink lots of water to thin out the mucous and stay away from milk, wheat, and sugary foods which promote mucous production. If your symptoms worsen, make sure you see your doctor. You don't want to end up with pneumonia or strep throat. Fruits like persimmons can dissolve phlegm but should be eaten in moderation, no more than 3 at a time. It's great for lung health and other benefits.
