In pursuit of spiritual mastery
If you think of yourself as being all that you know you should be: constant, gentle, loving and kind to every man, woman and child, and to every circumstance of life; kind and tolerant in your attitude towards all conditions on earth; above all, if you can concieve yourself as being completely calm in all conditions and circumstances, quiet and yet strong - strong to aid your weaker brethren, strong to speak the right word, to take the right action, and so become a tower of strength and light; if you can see yourself facing injustice and unkindness with a serene spirit, knowing that all things work out in time for good, and that justice is always eventually triumphant; if you have patience to await the process of the outworking of the will of God; if you can picture becoming like this, you will know something of mastership...

And then there are the rest of us that live in the real world. It is ok being a Spiritual Master, but you need to keep your feet on the ground and have a balance in life. A lot of it is about using your common sense, in some situation it is not a good idea to be quite, or submissive etc. Don't make yourself be a target.
In ancient times Monks learned self defence for a reason!

1) I take it to mean he is talking about attaining serenity of spirit (Surely something you can relate to) - being at peace with oneself - a message given by all the great teachers of the Light.
As well as advocating showing kindness to all in one's daily life, you'll note too that he also advocates championing the weak and downtrodden, and standing up for what one knows to be right and true. (One wouldn't amount to very much if one wasn't prepared to do that.)
There is a time for speaking up and there are times when silence is the best answer...
2) The Shaolin monks you mean. Yes, but they travelled on foot, far and wide, across often lawless country. They were adapts in the martial arts, but they used their powers only as a last resort and appropiately. i.e. the minimum force necessary.

Mastery is an illusion that may lead to complacency - always keep humility in you.

That's quite a quote....and a challenge.
Lovely inspiration.
If one is truly 25% of that it's an achievement.

Great words of wisdom. This is a lot to try to master in one lifetime, and very easy to fall short of by trying to obtain White Eagle's mark of excellence.

I guess the key question might be to ask what are the blocks we have to attaining such mastery?
I would see these as being the focus if we want to achieve such goals.
