Yeah, that would likely do it, hihi. Not just the water, but also temp I think, and definitely detergent.

Haha, and I would only advise against water with selenite as I used to sell it ( among many other crystals and gemstones) and had a duty to my customers with "do's and dont's" with regard to not immersing selenite as it only has a hardness level of 2 on the mohs table.
Same as I was duty bound to alert my customers to be aware of their cats or dogs getting addicted to licking salt lamps. The odd lick is harmless, a bit like a quick rinse for a couple of seconds under tap with selenite , but in abundance can be harmful.
And let's all ignore miss H LOL.
Don't put selenite in washer , especially if it's on a boil wash

Immersing wouldn't be smart, nope.
Doesn't mean you cannot rinse it off.
As I said, I've first hand experience as I've carved a selenite skull and rinsed it off plenty of times. That's not the same as immerging it.
First time I was afraid to doing it as I too was influenced by the nonsense myth. Friend of mine, a crystal master who had also carved skulls, giggled and told me not to worry, it'd be fine. And it was :)

Hence me posting this as I don't like to add to incorrect stories that keep being copied & pasted year in year out. They're just stories, not the truth.

Selenite.

Selenite comes in so many different flavors. It is hard to realize that what you might be looking at is 'Selenite'. For example, Satin Spar is a 'Selenite' that is less water soluble then 'Selenite'. Sometimes, people can't tell one from the other. What is less soluble then Satin Spar is Alabaster which has the same chemical composition as........ Selenite!

If you have ever had a cast put on, it probably was made out of 'Plaster of Paris' which has the same chemical composition as 'Selenite.

If you check your walls and ceilings in your home, you might be surprised that if the material is sheetrock, it also has the same chemical composition that 'Selenite' has!

If you like Tofu, you might be surprised that the chemical composition of 'Selenite' is used to make Tofu.

Not to be forgotten, guess what the chemical composition of 'chalk' is?
