Thanks. I'm not all that familiar with quora. Do you think its valuable to add various interpretations over there? (That is if you're at all familiar with it.)

I think like, if your purpose is to share your knowledge about various schools of Shaivism then:

First check this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaivism#Major_schools
The introductions are also linking to the pages about the schools.
Are you satisfied with this info on wikipedia or you want to edit it? If want to edit then make a wikipedia account and make edits preferably with citations, or ignore.

I have no purpose, just wondering about quora as a tool, but then I looked at it more closely, to disciver a basic free for all with the answers, not all that unexpectedly, given our diversity.

Namaste.

I also need to pretty much get it through my head and deal with the fact that 99.9999% of Shiva devotees out there, do not have a PC or the internet or even a mobile phone and live in caves in the Himalayas or in grass huts by the Ganges.

Most of what the western or 'civilised' world sees as being 'Hinduism' is just watered down new-age philosophies anyway.

Bearing that in mind, doing anything for Thaipusam in three days, Vinayaka?

Sometimes I feel like getting lost in the crowd at a Kumbha Mela festival and never being able to find my way out of it...

Namaste.

I am also coming to full terms with something else...something huge and almost equally as important as my Balinese culture and tradition.

From early on, I have worshipped Shiva in the form of Kala Bhairava.

From early on, it was a mixture of Agama Hindu Dharma and Pashupati Shaivism.

ALL of the time, it seemed like Kala Bhairava was a 'minor deity' which 'nobody worshipped'. I couldn't find a society, culture or tradition that DID!

Until a while ago, when I took a little online holiday to Karnataka and I saw...I saw hundreds of people worshiping Kala Bhairava!!...huge beautiful temple complexes dedicated to Him...lots of happy people in bright, colourful clothes dancing in the streets and singing praises to Him...I was like "WOAH!!!...COOOOL!!!...AWESOME!!!...I can so see myself being there and doing that". I FINALLY found where I belong and to what school of Shaivism...one that nowhere on the whole internet makes any mention of!

I'm going to give a few music/bhajan links now, taken from a devotional Kannada film.

Kannada language has some similarities to Hindi, but it is totally different. I can get one word in every three, but I have also made up my mind that this is the next language I am going to study and become fluent in.

Now, there are some 'BONUS POINTS' for you guys if you can answer this question.

In the beginning of each video, an introduction is shown with a holy man or guru showering blessings....there are also a few scenes throughout where this Guru is being worshiped - I NEED A NAME!

Anyway, having said that, sit back...enjoy...empty mind and heart and welcome to 'Necro's School of Shaivism':

This is where Necro belongs...

I'll be going offline for a week - my internet credit just ran out and I can't afford any more right now...I am typing this from my local library.

I just came back on to log out, basically...but I would also like that information for when I return, because I know nothing about it.

1. What is this school of Shaivism called that is practiced in Karnataka and worships Kala Bhairava as the principle deity?

2. What is the name of that spiritual leader/teacher/guru who is the head of it and who is shown in all those videos?

3. Where abouts in Karnataka are these temples located and does this movement have any place online where one may go to learn more?

Thank you if you can give me this information and if you do, it will keep me out of everybody's hair/way for quite a while.

Aum Namah Shivaya

God, I just had to dig VERY deep on the internet and pull out no stops here:

1. Swami's name:

Balagangadharanatha Swamiji - Died: January 13, 2013, Kengeri, India.

Role taken over by:
Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirmalananda_Swamiji

2. The temple:

Adichunchunagiri Hills (Adichunchunagiri Math)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adichunchanagiri_Hills

3. Location:

Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math is situated on a rocky hill at an altitude of about 3,300 ft. above M.s.l. 110 km west of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, India and 6 km from Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway 48. The approach to the hill is from the west and the pilgrim who looks up the hill while visiting, it finds the hill itself to be in the form of Athmalingam found in the Gokarna Kshetra. At the time of moon-rise the hill appears like the moon crested Shiva, i.e., Chandramouleswara. This abode of green woods and small lakes enlivened by wild peacocks and birds has been attracting sages and rishis since ancient times.

4. Deity:

Kala Bhairava temples can also be found around Shakti Peethas. It is said that Shiva allocated the job of guarding each of the 52 Shakti Peethas to one Bhairava. There are said to be 52 forms of Bhairava, which are considered a manifestation of Shiva himself. Traditionally, Kal Bhairav is the Grama devata in the rural villages of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, where he is referred to as "Bhaivara/Annadhani" Vairavar. In Karnataka, Lord Bhairava is the supreme God for the community and commonly referred to as "Gowdas." In the Gangadikara Gowda caste especially, he is considered the caretaker and punisher. Shri Kala Bhairava Nath Swami Temple of Madhya Pradesh is also popular.

In south karnataka lord Sri Kalabhairaveshwara is present as Kshetra Palaka in Sri Adichunchanagiri place.

5. Caste:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowda

6. Online presence:

https://www.acmutt-usa.com/about-us-...agiri-kshetra/
http://acmbgs.org/contact/

7. School/sampradaya - Virashaivism

Geez that was hard...

NOW I will leave you guys alone. lol

Aum Namah Shivay.

This is for you Necro,
Nirvana Shatakam
By Shankara
(788 - 820)

I am not mind, not intellect, not ego, not thought.
I am not the ears, the tongue, the nose or the eyes, or what they witness,
I am neither earth nor sky, not air nor light.

I am knowledge and bliss.
I am Shiva! I am Shiva!

I am not the breath of prana, nor its five currents.
I am not the seven elements, nor the five organs,
Nor am I the voice or hands or anything that acts.

I am knowledge and bliss.
I am Shiva! I am Shiva!

I have no hatred or preference, neither greed nor desire nor delusion.
Pride, conflict, jealousy -- these have no part of me.
Nothing do I own, nothing do I seek, not even liberation itself.

I am knowledge and bliss.
I am Shiva! I am Shiva!

I know neither virtue nor vice, neither pleasure nor pain.
I know no sacred chants, no holy places, no scriptures, no rituals.
I know neither the taste nor the taster.

I am knowledge and bliss.
I am Shiva! I am Shiva!

I fear not death. I doubt neither my being nor my place.
I have no father or mother; I am unborn.
I have no relatives, no friends. I have no guru and no devotees.

I am knowledge and bliss.
I am Shiva! I am Shiva!

Free from doubt, I am formless.
With knowledge, in knowledge, I am everywhere, beyond perception.
I am always the same. Not free, not trapped -- I am.

I am knowledge and bliss.
I am Shiva! I am Shiva!

Truly, I am Shiva, pure awareness.
Shivo Ham! Shivo Ham!

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru
