Do our dreams give us answers/solutions?

My Dream:

I'm working at my old job as if I never left. (I'm currently unemployed in reality). I am struggling to keep up with the work, but I'm finding it really hard to do. I feel overwhelmed and am stressed out and feeling like I don't have enough help. There was someone helping me in the dream, but I guess it feels like it's not enough help. My helper takes the radio which in the dream is also a clock and he accidentally submerges it under water. (I worked in a kitchen and there were deep sinks for washing dishes). He gets it all wet so we couldn't plug it back in. So we no longer had a clock to see what time it was.

My Interpretation:

I think this dream is about what happened yesterday. I was working on the computer trying to figure out how to come up with images for my facebook ads. Which might be why the dream shows me working. I am struggling trying to come up with the right images. I was feeling overwhelmed and stressed out and feeling like I didn't have enough help. And yes there is somebody helping me, it just doesn't feel like enough help. In the dream my helper gets the radio/clock wet so it doesn't work. In reality the person helping me and telling me what I need to do isn't helping me at the moment. As symbolized by the wet radio – no information/communication currently being sent and received. And the clock has stopped symbolizing that I'm at a stand still at this moment in time and can't move forward.

What the heck is the purpose of dreams?

So that's what I think the dream is about. It seems to correlate with what I was doing and feeling yesterday. Most of my dreams that I have interpreted are usually about what happened the day before. They just seem to recap what happened but converted into symbols. They never seem to tell me anything useful. I've read books on dream interpretation that explain how our dreams give us answers and solution and things we can do, but mine never do. Why is that? Like this one, all they seem to do is recap what I was doing, thinking, and feeling the day before. I already knew this information. Why don't they give me something I can use?

If the purpose of our dreams isn't to help us, then what's the purpose of them? Is it just the subconscious minds way of reviewing the days events symbolically as it send this information back to Source/God? I think we're all extensions of Source Energy (God) and that Source learns and grows from all of our experiences.

I have also come to believe that what is most important in dreams are the feelings. They usually stay the same in our dreams as the events we're currently going through which they correlate with.

The objects/nouns (person, places, and things) in our dreams however, don't seem to be as important and end up getting converted into other things that symbolize or represent them. Maybe the objects are not important to our soul. Maybe the feelings are what's important to the soul. But, why change the waking objects/symbols into other objects/symbols while we're asleep? What purpose does that serve?

I've read that our dreams are our brains way of processing and releasing unprocessed emotions from the day before. That seems to be the case with you. However, the dream and the days events are an opportunity for you to see how you handle life and decide if it helps your hinders your happiness and well being. Circumstances arise as a way to give us opportunities for growth. So how did the situation make you feel. frustrated, impatient, annoyed? If you felt those things why? What does it say about you? Is there another way you could have reacted to the situation? I am starting to suspect life isn't so much about the outcomes we do and don't achieve but about how we interact with life. The great lesson being learning to find balance in everything we do.

As for only having reflective dreams of the days events to help process unprocessed emotions it may help if you ask questions before you go to bed for other types of dreams. I do also get premonition type dreams and information dreams but I have to ask. I do this in life as well when I have a question. I ask it out loud and wait for the information to find it's way to me sometimes in magical ways. It's pretty cool. If I don't have a specific question I will usually just say, show me what I need to know. Give it a go and see what comes up. But the point is to try and be a participant in the experience instead of just being pulled along by it. Get curious about your life and interesting things will happen. At least that is what I am finding.

I think our dreams sometimes point out what is buried in our subconscious. I think they are also a way for our higher self, spirit guides, deceased loved ones, etc to get messages through to us.

I do think our feelings can be important in dreams for deciphering, however, I've had many dreams where I felt like a spectator, with no feelings or emotions. So, in this case, the symbols, images, etc are important.

I just don't understand why the subconscious would need to use different images/symbols then the ones we experienced during the day when recaping what happened that day.

I've read several books on how to interpret your dreams, but it seems like 95 percent of them I can't even seem to interpret. It's frustrating. And it wouldn't even be necessary if the subconscious would just use the same images/symbols that we experienced that day. Instead it has to turn them into a complex puzzles that are often very difficult to analyze.

I have, right before falling asleep, asked for solutions or answers to a problem to come to me in a dream, but it's never worked for me yet. Or if it did I wasn't able to interpret the dream.

I've actually had the exact same thoughts. Why do they need to be so cryptic. Why not just be straight forward. If we use language why all the symbolism. And so you got me thinking and I had an insight. It just occurred to me so I can't say for sure its the truth but now I wonder if our dreams are more a communication for our soul as opposed to being for our human self. From what I understand when we are in spirit we don't use words. We use symbolism and somehow otherwise relay our message without language. Language is a human tool so maybe the dreams are more easily deciphered by our soul who then gets insight to our conscious mind when the time is right. I'm not sure if this is accurate but it makes sense. Or maybe when we are in the dream realm we are simply operating more like our soul than our human self. Something to think about

As for the asking questions and attracting answers it's very likely it took me a while for it to work. I think at first it only worked on questions I didn't care about like whatever happened to that movie star then the next day hearing something about them. It isn't something you can force so just allow yourself to be curious and the answers that will benefit you will come. I do know if I ask a question I'm not ready to hear the answer to I won't get a response but I have found persistence with anything eventually pays off.

Michelle beat me to it. I agree, the soul doesn't communicate with spoken language, but by symbols, images, emotions, etc. So, when asking for guidance and answers via dreams, our higher self and/or guides will 'show' us instead of tell us.

The soul might not communicate with spoken language, but I didn't experience the actual event, that the dream was about, in spoken language. It was also experienced as images since we think in images.

Dreams maybe in images, but the actual events that they symbolize are also in images. So why is it necessary for the subconscious to change the images? Seems like unnecessary work which just ends up confusing the conscious mind.

Like the dream example I gave above. It ended up being about what happened that day. I was working on the computer trying to come up with image ideas for my facebook ads. I had someone helping me with it, but I wasn't getting enough help from them at the moment. And so on and so forth...

All of that is in images, so wouldn't it be easier for the subconscious to use the same images?

I completely agree with this train of thought. The symbols, images etc. are the messages, they do take some deciphering but that can be very individual. However, I go by the universal and see if anything get's jogged, my intuition will always let me know when I've found the meaning. It's such a fascinating tool for spiritual development. Jung was pure genius!!!
