I absolutely love the look of Polynesian tattoos.
Wouldn’t have one, since I am not Polynesian, though comparing DNA results, sounds like we do share some common ancient “Mongolian” (Altai-Sayan connection. Is it the origin of Polynesian tattoos? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M8llYuX6yQ).
Still, those cool tattoos have specific cultural significance.

If I was strongly identified, classed as Scythian – then I might have gotten their tattoo.

Truly, my life is just to tiring to get yet another thing that I have to upkeep.

But I also agree with iamthat... life is so fluid that who we are may not be who we become.

Each of my sisters had tattoos that they eventually got grafted off their bodies. That's 4 sisters, all regretting the decision later in life.

I have two tattoos and I got them later in life, because for a very long time, I was like Rah Nam and Lucky....but I finally got over that.

The tattoos are on my upper arms so that a long sleeved shirt can cover them if need be.

The First tattoo I got was ten years ago, on my right upper arm. Not really knowing what I wanted, I was dared into it by my 70 year old mother, who was getting a tattoo of a Redback Spider on her left shoulder and a hibiscus flower on her right calf...

I was into a Goth Metal band called HIM at the time, so I chose to get a tattoo of the "Heartagram" on my right upper arm, as it is also a very powerful Wiccan occult symbol:

Then three years ago, I decided to adorn the opposite upper arm with the symbols of my Faith...A trident, a kettle drum and the omkara:

I will probably get a few more tattoos at a later date...I would like to have a Mahakaal Mantra...

.....and you all have no idea how hard this post was to make using a mobile phone...

I don't really have any body-identification anyway, so living with features of my body I dislike is not an issue for me...I have been doing it all my life anyway...but I haven't got sick and tired of my Tatts yet, and doubt I ever will, because I am just like that...It is really no big deal for me.

So, about "mutilation" and all that...

My soul hails from a distant time and place in the past, where all of this was the "norm"...It was seen as a cultural and traditional "Rite of passage" and we never gave it second thought or really cared much, but it meant a lot to us, as individuals, to go through the initiation personally and to take our rightful place within the tribe, with their unique rituals and customs pertaining to it.

When this soul reincarnated into a Western body during the mid to end of the 20th century, I had absolutely no "point of reference". The world seemed so hostile and alien to me...There was nothing I could identify with and all I could keep saying was "this is definitely not the world that I remember departing"....and I have since learned that Christian missionaries came along, called our traditional practices "barbaric" and "Satanic" before killing off most of the adults and converting all the children....which left me actually pondering the word "barbaric" when we have lived in peace with nature for thousands of years...not really bothering anybody.

Mutilation can mean piercing a girl child's ears or even carrying the Kavadi during Thaipusam, to showing off, by lifting heavy weights with the foreskin of one's penis...this was all "par for the course" during ancient, tribal days and we all took it as being just a "fact of life"...

Then, others came along who deemed our practices "unnecessary" and shunned mutilation of any kind, yet insisted that painful genital mutilation was a-okay and basically said "doing all of those things is wrong because God said so"...to which, we could only say "that is not what God said to US" then, of course, they would say "that's because it was the Devil who was speaking to you and not God"...to which we would say "how do you know that it is not the Devil who is speaking to YOU?" and then, we would get put to death for blasphemy, along with all the other tribal elders...this was how I met my end once.

The placement of one's tattoo should perhaps also be considered:
