conscious vs unconscious

When we are awake we are conscious and when we are asleep we are unconscious or in a sub-conscious state. Our spirit never sleeps? Curious Paul

We are never unconscious.
Unconsciousness is only defined by thought in retrospect because thought itself can't deal with the absence of thought and therefore fills in images of blankness, darkness, blackness - whatever - it calls it "unconsciousness" and claims there has been no experience.
But the absence of time, mind, body and sense perceptions is not the absence of experience. Who is experiencing other than consciousness itself?

The conscious mind is the aspect of the mind we are aware of, the one typing or reading this post right now. The subconscious mind is the non-conscious aspect of the mind, where all base needs, symbol systems, heuristics, schemas, and so on exist. We can bring the conscious and subconscious into alignment to create a more perfect self. The (collective) unconscious is to the mind what DNA is to the body, it's where the archetypes and such are and where many mystical ideas arrive from. The collective unconscious is we all religions have jokers and creators and devils, why we all ended up worshiping the sun and the heavens.

Thanks for posting this - for the first time the message has hit home and I understand because you have explained it so clearly.

I've always been puzzled as to what happens to consciousness when we are under general anaesthetic but obviously the mind just creates a blank to fill in absence of thought etc...

Spirit is always awake, it is the brain and body that sleep. When the energy is strong enough the brain remembers the activity during sleep.
