The human mind lives in the past and future; it can not exist in this eternal moment. Without thought there is no such thing as time. It is our mental construction which sees the passage of time as an actual thing. In silent meditation we quiet our thoughts and exist, where we can only exist, in this eternal moment of the here and now.

It is an experience without concepts or mental constructs. Most people who have gone deep enough into quiet meditation have experienced the eternal stillness which is only present in the here and now. Experience can only take place in the here and now. If you stop and not think about it, it is always now and no matter where you may be, you will know that place as "here."

A profound truth shaded by the mental concepts which become greater than the things which they are suppose to represent. We used to mark time with an hour-glass, then there was the Julian calendar, just about every culture and religion has their own calendar. China, which has a much larger landmass than the U.S., only has one time zone while the U.S. has four time zones. How we mark and measure time is relative to our beliefs about time. The most populated religion in the world is Christianity, so it is no wonder why most people on Earth use the Gregorian calendar.
