Healing for a cat ?

Any suggestions for healing for a cat ? A friend's cat, is always chewing on things he isn't supposed to and as a result is always getting sick to his stomach. Quite a mess... any suggestions how to get him to change his ways or heal his stomach issues ? He may have other stomach issues, the vet has already changed his food to a different brand/ variety, but this hasn't helped much.

Thank you,
Dream Angel xx

Some Cats are very anxious in their and this manifests in all kinds of behaviour, Scratching, chewing, hiding, biting, hissing, spitting, weight loss.

I had a half bald cat(very odd looking indeed), It over groomed (for approval and attention) feline alopecia they call it.

Any how, before going down the route of Veterinary intervention it's worth trying fuss and attention, lot's of it too. Getting them purring like an engine on a regular basis.

My half bald cat is no longer half bald.... In this case it seems I do have Healing Hands ...

Yes, Neville it does seem like you have healing hands.I will mention the idea of the more attention. Wow, amazing how their anxiety appears in so many different ways. He shares the house with another cat, but they seem to get along ok. Now there is talk of wanting to get a puppy ! I am almost sure, both cats will vote NO on that one, lol.

Another trick they may want to try is to, as often as possible, replace what the cat is chewing on. Whenever they catch the cat chewing on something it shouldn't be, take it away, and replace it with something that is safe for the cat to chew on (some type of cat toy). If this is done often enough, the cat may start associating the behaviour with that particular item, and simply use that (like a soother to a baby), and it will learn that chewing other items is unacceptable.....

This is only my opinion, and if you (or your friend) feel he is unwell in any way, get him straight to the vet or emergency vet, depending.
Anyway, three things spring to mind.
1) That he needs a first-class holistic cat food -which will probably cost more -but for his health it is worth it. It could be he is not getting exactly enough nutrition for his needs, and this is causing him to try to eat inappropriate things. Try to get him a food with MEAT or FISH as one of the first ingredients on the list (as the ingredients are listed on pet foods in the order that there are percentages of that ingredient in the pack) Also, watch out for anything no animal needs to eat such as "animal derivatives" "corn gluten" and a lot of other things. Google "what do commercial pet foods contain"....but only do this if you have a strong heart.
Then find him a GOOD food.
[This is a very informative site about pet nutrition: http://www.bestcatanddognutrition.com/?cat=12 But beware because you may read some upsetting things.]

2) It is possible he may be bored?? Cats have a reputation for not needing anyone, being aloof, being loners...etc. This is not true. They need company conversation, and stimulus. Both from humans and their own kind.

3) Is he what's known as an "indoor cat" (meaning he spends all his time inside a dwelling, using a litter tray, and never gets to go out? I'm not saying this is so in your friend's case, but a cat, like a dog, is meant to also spend time outside. Some cats will take well to going for leash-walks. But NEVER use a neck collar on a cat as their windpipes are fragile. Always use a well-fitting harness.

Meanwhile, hugs from me to kitty.

I would suggest that cats and dogs, and indeed any animals that end up around us, are somewhat empathic and can be there simply to show us... what ails us.

As if our own being is held restrained but for the animals this behaviour is obvious and they can't help but show this behaviour for what it is.

Like children, look not to the children as the source of the behaviours they exhibit but look to those whose care they have chosen.
