Which crystals do you find the most soothing and why?
I've been highly encouraged by my TF to start looking deeply into crystals, as he feels it would enrich my life and healing process.
I will be doing my own research of course but I am specifically interested in crystals which are soothing and lower anxiety levels, strengthen and center, and perhaps stimulate self-awareness.
Which would you recommend? Which do you feel have been the most beneficial to you in these areas and why? I would love to hear anyone's experiences.
I have a drilled crystal necklace, but the only crystal to ever interact with me was his. Which, it did big time, but he kept it for his own purposes. So I'm just getting started. Thanks

don't know about the self awareness bit, but I have found Petosky stone one of the most soothing stones I have. I guess it's not a crystal. Got one for my sister and when she got it she thought "eh?" but later she saw past the visual and now appreciates it the way I do. (I actually had the same in initial response she did.) Someone here on this forum mentioned Petosky stone for grounding. I got it because of the recommendation. Don't know if all Petosky stone is this wonderful, but the pieces I have certainly are. When I was very anxious recently I took it with me to face what I had to face. Was very glad to have it.

Oh my, I googled Petosky and that's a very interesting looking stone! It does look very soothing. I'm fine including stones along with the crystals, as anything which is recommended for grounding, centering or soothing can only be good for me, I'm sure. Thank you for your response.

Rhodonite is one of my personal favorites and is known as the "rescue stone" because it's great for quickly soothing overwhelming emotions. It's a balancing stone. It helps to process and manage your emotions, aids in acceptance and forgiveness of both yourself and others, helps you understand and use your abilities, and draws you to act in ways that will be beneficial to your well-being. It's especially helpful for when emotional hurts are turning into bitterness and resentment. It's uplifting, energizing, and centering. I have never used rhodonite and not felt almost instantly better.
Of course, the best stones for me might not be the best stones for you. Check out what other people suggest, but go to what you're personally drawn to. Based on what you said, it sounds like your looking for a balancing effect, so let that be the keyword that you keep your ears on for. Typically, those are going to be stones associated with the heart chakra (pink or green stones associated with love and acceptance) and base chakra (deep red or black stones associated with grounding and protection), and you might not find your ideal fit in just one stone. For instance, some common favorites are rose quartz and black tourmaline.

I don't have any one stone for that, as it depends on what the caused me to feel that way.
I ended up with quite a lot of calcites when going through extremely troubled times, calcites are very soothing, very gentle, yet strong.
In other cases I might grab my citrine, or morganites, but also have found lot of comfort from my white jade carvings. I relied on a large carnelian from Madagascar for a long time, currently really need ruby.
To me there is no one stone or crystal, as the cause of turmoil varies each time. I think I choose a crystal accordingly.

Perhaps check out Ruby in Fuchsite :)
Jaspers are nurturing, and there's a good selection of stones ~ such as Ocean Jasper and Tiger Iron.
Personally I love both Kunzite and Petalite ~ started off with a selection of quartz (great for grids), and eventually discovered Kunzite, which I combined with Rose Quartz. But Amethyst is also a great stone for protection, and clearing a space to work in.
Trust your intuition :)
~ if your drawn to blue stones then perhaps check out Sodalite, or a lovely natural Blue Topaz.

Got some Brecciated Jasper the other day.. ahhh that felt so good. Very warm loving and soothing energy.. it's a grounding stone so it'll strengthen your lower chakras and help anxiety issues.. I also found it very protective and centring.. as if it realigned all my chakras too. Also anything you get that you need will help self-awareness, so it should do the trick good :)

I know this thread is well over a year old, but I just wanted to give everyone who responded a heartfelt thank you, for helping me get started with my crystal journey. :) I have acquired many of the stones suggested and am still experimenting with them. Lots of pinks and greens, and I also have the rhodonite, the ruby and the kunzite.
Many other additional stones have inserted themselves into the process of course, for different reasons along the way. One of the first to do so was lithium quartz, also known as 'the great balancer', and it helped a lot. I have a deep love for that crystal now. Another key stone for me has been chlorite, the great aura cleanser. My chlorites have become some of my absolute favorite crystals, and they feel so good! I found out that the lithium quartz and the chlorites are actually protector stones for me. They both came along at the right times, to help me on the path.
It has been a fabulous time and I've learned a lot, everyone's feedback and guidance really helped me to know what to expect. :) The crystals themselves are teaching me how to work with them and how to become more attuned to them, along with my concerns about becoming more grounded, engaged and centered.
I've just a placed another large crystal order and I feel confident that one of my stronger soothing stones is now on it's way. :) And I really like what CrystalHeart pointed out, that anything I purchase which I actually need, naturally helps with the self awareness, which has of course been the case. I still have a really large need to ground (so far I've been using smoky quartz for that but I may try the black tourmaline as well as some nuumite) and a ways to go, but I am improving.
This thread still gets quite a few views from time to time so it seems that soothing is a common concern.
Again thank you so much everyone!
