Was this an OBE?

I've never had a self induced OBE before but this is what happened to me last night-

I woke up from terrible nightmares at about 2 am, just after I woke up trying to go back to sleep and half way into the sleep I feel these vibrations all over my body. These vibrations were getting stronger by the minute with a low 'vvvvvvv' hum, simultaneously I felt my body temp rising in an accelerated manner. I remember being able to see from my bed the room even with my eyes closed..I saw my husband next to me soundly sleeping, the light from the nightlight and the darkness as If had opened my physical eyes. The funny thing is I felt a presence in the room - I saw a silhouette or more like a shadow moving around on the ceiling and heard footsteps of something or someone walking in the room. I remember being petrified and was calming myself down repeating "this can't harm you" "this will pass" And right after the vibrations got stronger for me to handle and I could feel my right arm (not my physical arm) floating upwards as if it had no weight at all. I told myself that I was not ready for this experience and tried to wake up and surprisingly enough I did wake up almost immediately. In my awakened state I could still feel little of those vibrations but in a way that they were getting weaker and weaker till they stopped.

Was I going to experience an OBE? If yes, then why the shadow hallucination? And can someone explain those vibrations?

Sounds like a classic Astral Projection and a typical first timer response (controlled panic).

The vibrations are part of sleep paralysis. Normally when you sleep your body is paralyzed. If transitioning to/from sleep and the paralysis get out of sync, you can wake up but be paralyzed. During the transition to/out of paralysis, you have incomplete or sporadic control of your body. It often feels like vibrations.

Note that vibrations do not always occur with OBE (astral projection). With more experience, they stop occurring for most people.

This does makes sense , I think I get it now. This has been happening to me for a couple of times over past 3 years and sometimes I don't feel the vibrations at all.

Hello

Its often called a Torso Energy Surge.

Torso Energy Surge:

The Torso Energy Surge is a surge of energy located in the torso area of the body. This surge can flow down into the legs but mostly its centered in at lower back area ( Pelvis area ) and the abdomen.

It can feel like a sensation of dropping suddenly. Like when one steps unexpectedly in a dip along a path.

This sensation most often happens when one is laying on one’s back and when one is in a state of almost drifting off to sleep. One is trying simply NOT to enter that sleep state.

What causes this surge ? It is thought that its an emotionally triggered that arises from the Heart Charka Centre. That is the centre where one leaves the body, so it is thought that the energy levels might well double in intensity as one readies to leave the physical body. This often gives one the need to grab onto something, often it be the sides of one’s bed.

What are the feelings one can have ? The first one is of course a feeling for being startled or of fear. It can leave one in search of one’s next breath in. This reaction most times is strong enough to take one from that relaxed state of being into one of full consciousness. As the body reacts often adrenalin is released and one’s heart will start to race. It can be at times a feeling of excitement in a shocking positive way like in finding one has won something. To others the feeling is that of being on a Coaster going up and down the hills and valleys. It can too bring on a feeling of an up set tummy.

What you have experienced is paranormal activity!

If it repeats, continue to comfort yourself & slowly the feelings of fear will fade away.
In time you will learn not to fear at all!

In a classic OBE, you do not have to ask yourself whether it was one as everything will feel as real as in your waking body. Your consciousness is not dreamy or cloudy like in a lucid dream, and you will have the same or similar level of lucidity as in your physical body.
Sounds in your case like this was an OBE. Lucky you:!)

Never read about it before. Is there a way to control it and induce a safe OBE?

It felt very real , almost to the point I was afraid to go back to sleep again because of those hallucinations (I hope they indeed were hallucinations ) But yes I have had this feeling of a limb of my body lifiting off many times before as well and it generally happens with these vibrations. They feel very real.
