Advise about protection and getting rid of scary entities

So this happened awhile ago and ill decribe how i handled it and im hoping others will chime in to tell me the right way! Lol! Its funny now but not at the time....

We, hubby and i had last minute guests stay at our house in the spare bedroom for a few weeks while the found an apartment in town here.
They had left about a month prior to this.

Hubby and i came home from shopping. I sometimes store gifts in the spare bedroom. I open the spare bedroom door and see this tall, thin, greenish reptilian whatever it is; crouched at the end of the bed.

First instinct i always do is ignore whatever it is. Closed bedroom door, suggested hubby do something outside and went to another room and prayed extremely hard to get this thing out of our house!
It took alot of prayers and I was seriously wishing Spiritual Forums was on speed dial!!! Wasnt sure i could get it out. It didn't want to leave. Meeting of the wills!!!

Didnt know what to do if i couldn't get rid of it because i knew it would be angry with my trying!

There must be a better way to get rid of unwanted "guests" and too i wasn't entirely convinced i really got rid of it.
I would love to hear your suggestions about protection and getting rid of scary entities. Yes i know some look scary but not harmful, but this one i felt he was.
