Difference between Sylphs and regular birds?

I've heard that sylph's transform to birds from a book I read, anyway I was wondering if there are any differences between them like from the smallest detail to the obvious. If there are any differences could someone please tell me what they are.

I "met" a sylph once. I didn't get a look at it because it was standing inside a tree thinking I couldn't notice it.

As far as I know, they are either invisible or can be seen as abnormalities in the air (like smoke or maybe like the wavering blur you see above a hot road.)

They have their own personalities.

I know next to nothing other than that.

I've seen sylphs appear as clouds-- probably because the cloud vapor clings to them and you can see their form. If they appear as birds, no doubt it is because they can shape-shift as the Fae can.

I'm not convinced that sylphs are anything more than mythical creatures.

I'm not sure but I guess they can morph into any creature that involve flying.
But thanks for all the information about them ^-^ I'll be sure to look out for them even more now!
