The single nutrient that's not inherently in the plants, that you get from eating animals, is B12. And even that isn't actually a component of their bodies any more than it is a component of ours. They get it from the dirt (eating off the ground) or from dirty water. So I supplement, you supplement. The two main differences is, mine didn't come second hand (so to speak) and mine wasn't accompanied by egregious cruelty.

It's a fact that most of the animals must be supplemented in their feed, with B12. I found an interesting page that discusses B12 deficiency in cattle and sheep. Imagine that! With their bodies being touted as a primary source of B12 and therefore we should eat them for health.....and yet they can be deficient? How much more so can all the other animals that are eaten become deficient as they are born and raised in sheds across the country with no hope of a natural life or access to natural sources of B12 from the ground or ground water. And yet, B12 is pointed to as the reason and justification for eating meat and animal products. http://eerainuh.com/wp/wp-content/up...deficiency.pdf

As for 'supplementation in general', considering our very small numbers in contrast to the entire population, those vitamins were created for all the animal eaters who are deficient in any number of vitamins and minerals. We are not the market that has driven that health industry to the levels it's at.
