What does the phrase "we come from stardust" actually mean?

Peace

Your friend will go to the same place the rest of us will. Nothing to do with what we believe in or not.

Just enjoy your friendship. Try and learn from his carefree attitude.

This depends upon your point of view.

For instance we all, everyone of us, have a few atoms in our bodies that were once Napoleon. So stardust is simply collapsed atoms. These atoms spread themselves around, getting everywhere!

Or you could say we are made of nuclear waste - leftovers from all that disintegrates. Same as above actually, just different words...

Where they go depends on the culmination of many lifetime beliefs. He may have had a belief in past lifetimes of an existence beyond death.

In some instances those who don't believe in an afterlife often go to a void. No pain involved. And there are volunteers who will occasionally come from the light to try to convince them that there is more. The non-believer will stay where he believes as long as he needs to before changing his perspective.
