Similarities Between Christianity and Forms of Buddhism

Pure Land Buddhism
The aspirant is told to recite "Amitabha Buddha" which express their gratitude towards Buddha. Amitabha means immeasurable light but is also known as Amitayus which means immeasurable life. Faith in Amitabha / Amitayus Buddha is not an accomplishment of the believer but a gift from Buddha.

This is similar to the Christian concept of "eternal life" (immeasurable life being fairly similar) and according to some Christian theories, faith in Christ is not an accomplishment of the believer but a gift from God / Christ.

Zen Buddhism
The suffering of the world moved a king, influencing him to sacrifice his power. He then became a monk named Dharmakara. The aim of zen Buddhism is to seek an understanding of the sole meaning of life. This is often symbolized as the "enso" or a drawn circle. Obtaining this enlightenment transforms the one who possesses it.

This is similar to the Christian concept of gnosis, or transformative insight. One seeks to gain an understanding of their "real self" and in doing so, they are transformed by their enlightenment.

Oh yes they have so many similarities. Isn't it extraordinary?!

They also can learn from one another. Buddhism can learn from Christianity how to have Faith or Trust in something greater and live life as wholly who you are, and Christianity can learn from Buddhism more on meditation, discipline, and expanding consciousness.

But both great masters, Jesus and Buddha had the spiritual knowledge where if they were in the same room they'd recognize one another as their own Self.
