PinkF. Yeah I love The Girl with the Pearl Earing as well. I helped a few of my students reproduce that one and they all did very well. One of them actually sold theirs for $400! Lol

Jusepe de Ribera....
Your response is exactly what I get from all who see my copy that I bought in Toledo . When I ask why is it horrible they always refer to ugliness..... He was able to step beyond the ideals of perfection and beauty, imo.... He said She was a 'Wonder of nature', most would say 'A freak of nature'... She was obviously a Woman who had Hormonal problems which wouldn't have been understood Centuries ago.

This!!! ^^^

That's why I love much of Vincent van Gogh's work.
I can feel his emotions through his work. It really moves me.
I somehow came across him & his work when 13-14 and when I had to do my annual mandatory lecture at school -age 14- I did it on Vincent.

I've once been told my work resembles Thomas Kinkaid in the way I play with light & shadow. That was in the time I still worked with oils.
So I looked up Kinkaid's work, loved it!

Sky. I guess we don’t expect to see a breast on a man and especially not on a bearded man so I think that shocks the system first. Then of course it’s so dark and eerie as well which probably adds to the shock. Although I must say, from a technical point of view it it’s painted exceptionally well.

Just not my cuppa tea mate!

When I look at it I often wonder how She was treated in Her home town Abruzzi, I hope they looked beyond Her appearance....
