I played piano when I was younger, but I've pretty lost my skills. Similar to you I was very good at playing by ear, but I did learn to read music. Sadly, I've completely lost the ability to read sheet music. Oh well ;P

It's kinda hard to say. I don't really categorize music by genre, but more by what sounds "good" and what doesn't, lol. But my favorites bands are Pink Floyd, Jack Garratt, Lana Del Rey, Bee Gees, Frederic Francois Chopin, and David Bowie. Ha.

I think it's okay if you've lost some skills. Playing piano should be something you get into when you really feel like it and when it gives you pure, pure joy. ^_^

I don't know how to read music, either. I knew a tad bit ten years ago but I don't know much now. :P

Hi Katrina...

Thanks for responding to my questions :)

Ah...I grew up listening to a lot of Pink Floyd, Bee Gees, and David Bowie thanks to my Dad ;P....my Uncle is heavily into classical piano music and he would play various Chopin pieces and "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin on his piano and other random classical pieces...

I also agree with what you say about playing piano (or any instrument) should come from the soul....to me that is when music is the most beautiful... :)
