Hello smallstone,

your quote from Lao Tzu (Li Erh Xian Shi) does not ring any bells for me as being at all right!

You can down load from my sight the real version that my master Lao Tzu taught me many years ago, you will find this a much better and understandable version in English of his words and has given many scholars and Taoist alike greater understanding of this monumental work. Good luck.

Best wishes,

Flowing Hands

What is your understanding of Li Er Lao Zi's words on this matter.. are you suggesting that the text of Tao Te Ching is not accurate, i.e.: "Wan (ten thousand) wu (thing) zuo (achieve) er (but) fu (not) shi (undertake)"?

Be well..

The text that was quoted as being from Lao Tzu is not right, it is so far removed I could not even recognize what chapter it was quoted from. This is why I was given the text by Lao Tzu that appears on my site. Sorry I can't put a link to it as being new I am not allowed to paste links!!

You're trying too hard to not-try.
Trying too hard to understand.
There is nothing to understand.
That is the big secret.

“Like a cloud.” This is a simile for how the wisdom mind benefits sentient beings without conceptual thought. For example, in the summer, clouds gather in the sky without effort, causing crops and so forth to grow perfectly through the rain falling on the ground without conceptual thought.

Likewise, the activities of the wisdom mind ripen the trainees’ crop of virtue through the rainfall of Dharma without conceptual thought.

there is a difference between trying and trying with intent to get something done. Hence the sage acts without acting.

The reasoning mind CANNOT understand such concepts, because they are not concepts.

Here only a Divine Leap must be made..... How? Well, the last step you do not do. Only pointers can be given, as there is no one way.

1)Persistence in effort, daily practice. what kind? Does not matter, whatever moves YOU!

2)Sincerity of Heart! Forgive all else, anything which brings down the Energy. Ask Divine help.

3) Tenacity , a refusal to quit even as you are mocked.

4) Readiness , nothing comes until we are ready for it.

So prepare slowly and build a firm foundation. Step by step , let go trying to understand concepts, merely let them in without fighting them.
Begin communing with the Divine as if it were right next to you. It is actually closer than that !
