Yes, dust is an issue too. I'm excited about all the crystals who have come to be with me, I've gotten some real mermaidy looking ones. They definitely need to be free. Thanks, I'm hoping it's just gotten lost in here somewhere while I was off evolving

It will probably surface again at some point :)
I have one who always does a runner. I only ever see it when I move house, when I'm packing up and unpacking. Then I think "Gotta remember where I put it!" and off it is. Haven't seen it in over 6 years, and before then only the minute I was wrapping it up to move as in that house it had done a runner too, hahaha.
It's a chiastolite tumble. I guess it's not the right stone for me, grin.

As such I only have a few that are not in direct, open daylight. They're in a wooden thingie without a lid, but that's in an open drawer. Sometimes I takes these out and put them in the window.
All my other crystals are out in the open on cupboards, shelves, nightstands, small tables and so on. I have 2 spare rooms that are not in use as bedroom. In one I put the more fiery & masculine crystals, in the other room the more feeling & feminine ones.
That's the crystals I don't directly need in my vicinity. The others are all downstairs in the living-room, and another bunch in the extension.

So I don't put them out based on colour but based on energy. Even the direction they're in is intuitively done, and never straight at a door.
It is starting to become a wee bit difficult as I'm running out of space, hihi. As it is thinking about how to sort this, but putting them in boxes is not an option.

why would crystals need daylight? they come from within the earth. In one sense it's like they live and are born deep within the earth, why would sunlight be essential to them?

yeah that is one thought I had, because most of them live the majority of their lives in deeply unseen spaces.. but then again they did come to the surface for a reason, if at first initially against their will. but I guess that is another thread subject lol.

I do think consciousness and being seen and paid attention and love to is what nature and everything needs in general, but then again sometimes we like to be hidden off too so I'm not sure. I think every crystal deserves love and to be appreciated, but they probably enjoy just chillin with their fellow crystal posse or alone somewhere at times too.

(rambling disclaimer- maybe I should just put this disclaimer with an asterisk in my signature from now on haha)

I have literally thousands of crystals. but I feel like I have a personal relationship with most of them. however I have gotten batches like a 50 pound one once for instance, so I do have a lot of rough common pieces repeated a bunch of times that I haven't paid as much attention to, ie bunch of jaspers that are not that notable looking and stuff. You know sometimes I felt that a certain crystal wasn't what I needed or wanted at the time (when I pick one or some to hang out with on a given day or night, I guess I do it on intuition and which colors or feelings of individual ones seem to want to come) or I just didn't feel that drawn to a crystal in general or I don't want to say this but just didn't enjoy it that much. I felt real bad about that and still do, but I keep reading others talk about crystals not resonating with them or not being the stone for them so I guess that it's normal, even though I still want to cherish all and any crystal..

Anyway though I have so many crystals cuz well I had chunks of school loan money I could spend sort of freely for a period of time. and while I gave some away to people including strangers on buses and stuff, I have been wanting to sell some for a while. just not sure I will be successful so haven't gotten myself to put in enough of the effort and steps yet. but they won't all be staying with me of course. I really love them all but even the prettiest or coolest most appealing ones, there are certain ones I feel like well yeah that one is meant for someone else, so I guess that's good. it will not be easy to part with a lot of them, but knowing others will benefit and they'll be appreciated by a new magical owner will help the process. and then they will get to be displayed and stored in a new way.. perhaps most of them enjoy the little hiatus I'm giving them. but really the main reason I keep them in there is because I don't have the energy to wash them all and organize them. although the place I'd ideally put them is still tucked away, in a dresser drawer thing with rainbow drawers. it is plastic but I have them mainly resting on paper towel made from bamboo in there. I do want to make more displays and stuff as I said though. another little one I've had is a set of rainbow colored tumbles in front of a pretty pastel neon rainbow colored box I painted on top of the dressers there. and a few other places in my room too but anyway I'll end this now lol sorry. oh lastly I did just put out two big (well several inches wide and tall) amethyst clusters I have in the living room

In the Earth is entirely different, they can get nourishment there as ground is very much alive. That's why it's also good to stick them in ground if they need to get rid of certain things, or to charge.
In the Earth they are 'home' in a way, even though it's not the same spot they came from originally.
A box is not alive. Then they rely on light amongst other things.
They need light to keep their energies alive & kicking. Like you can charge crystals in light. Have you ever heard of charging crystals in a box?
Light is life energy, that's why we need it as well. We can't live without light either. Many people get depressed when there's no proper light and get light therapy to feel good again.
It's the same for crystals. They aren't dead things, and they too need energy and light to not wither.
Keeping them in a box for a little while won't be a problem I guess, but if you store them there for longer time or permanently, not so good.
Maybe if you'd 'close' them beforehand, but even then not sure how that would pan out longterm. Like I said, they're not dead things, and light = life energy.

yeah that makes sense about the Earth nourishing them.. and it must be deeply empowering and healing in the middle of it where crystals tend to be born. but here at the surface light is only one magical component of life on Earth so in that sense wouldn't the crystals be content as long as they have some source of nature bestowing upon them? including other crystals, even if it is in a box that they're huddled together in? I am not saying a box is the best or an ideal place for them, but especially if they're with other crystals can't they still benefit from that space? or what if you have herbs or something else from nature in there? just like there are a multitude of natural ways to cleanse and recharge them wouldn't those ways be capable of nourishing them too?

What about crystals that are sensitive to light and actually lose their color or fade in it? Or some crystals where the integrity of their structure is actually damaged due to light? Are there myths or misconceptions about the Sun fading crystals like amethyst? I'm trying to look it up and see it mentioned to be careful about crystals in sunlight because they could also act as magnifiers and start a fire, like the old magnifying glass on the ant thing.. hopefully most people don't have to worry about that, but it surely would be a shame if it did happen. Now sadly in my case there isn't much Sun that can get into my house anyways.. My fiance has all the curtains closed and everything for reasons, so I guess even if I wanted to I would be hard-pressed to sunbathe many at a time because there's almost no light that gets in.

I like your angle and passion about life energy of course FairyCrystal.. though a crystal is life energy too so what do you think about crystals being in a confined space together? why would you want to 'close' them beforehand? that is interesting I haven't heard of putting crystals to sleep or whatever you mean by closing them. I wonder if you might consider making a thread to share some of the information and insight you have about crystals because you say a lot of valuable and thought-provoking things about them. only if it is something you feel drawn to do, perhaps think about it a little

I guess the fact there's more in a box could help.
It's not about SUNlight, but daylight.
The fading... some will fade eventually, but I've had amethyst in the window for over a year, in the sun (south-side of the house), nothing had faded. I've put a yellowish quartz there for over 4 years cos I wanted it to fade. Nothing.
I've had rose quartz in the same window for nearly a year, nothing.
Some people think a crystal will fade in the sun within half an hour or something. Nonsense. I've never seen that happen, not even in a month of sunlight.
Now it may happen sooner if it gets real hot where you live. I live in a sea climate (Netherlands), summer's usually around 26C, but we do get longer periods of over 30C, sometimes heatwaves of 36C-38C.
But not like 40-50C like in the States.
Nevertheless, I doubt a crystal would fade real fast.
If someone's experience is different I'd like to hear. The story's gotta be based on something after all. But as I said, I've never had it happen, not even after a year.

As for herbs, possible helps, I don't know. Maybe you can test it, do that with a box and see after a month or longer if you feel a difference.
Or maybe it is possible to simply open the boxes once a month for a day so they can get light? If you do that around full moon you can have them bathe in that light as well at night.

I am planning on doing a mini-crystal course for my Patreon site. I've recorded a few clips already, might add one about this subject.
I'm not all-knowing, but it's nice to share what my experiences are and what I know.

FairyCrystal what about crystals changing color, fading or getting brighter or different hued for other reasons? like if they need recharging or they get extra happy or something, have you noticed yours ever changing color?

I imagine sometimes crystals do fade with the Sun, after all there are things that the Sun alters the color or intensity of, but maybe it's possible that more of the reported experiences were with crystals that were artificially enhanced or something fading in the Sun?

As for the boxes of crystals in my room, there's a main big box and it is open, and there is another box or two inside, and a green glass dish on the top of one with more crystals in it. then I have a couple other boxes that are closed with crystals in them. yeah since you mention moonlight bathing, it would be easy for me to just bring the boxes or at least one of them outside and let them sit outside. though I'd like them to have contact with the Earth (like I did for the lunar eclipse ice blood moon or whatever it was recently lol, with like 8 of my crystals) but there are so many it'd probably be better to leave them in the box or glass bowl. I really do want to wash them and give them a more proper storage or chill area, but I am just overwhelmed and lacking energy in general so it's a task I've not been fully up to, though I've started it in spurts. but then I need to use more crystals lol so the piles keep building up. sometimes I collect a handful from there to wash and use or add to my rainbow drawers. now I have piles of crystals on the floor of my room or on random tables and desks n stuff waiting to be washed and stored too.

oh that's cool, I haven't heard of Patreon. I saw your youtube channel but I didn't watch your video you linked in full so I was waiting til I devoted the time to before commenting, but I appreciated you sharing it in the eclipse thread and that is awesome you make videos! and I did look to see if you had crystal ones. well what I saw of your moon video was lovely. ah I didn't exactly hear of Patreon but actually it rang a bell because one of my favorite Astrologer youtube video makers said they were moving most of their content to a place where there was a small subscription fee and yep that's it. I'm not making my own income at this time so I have to wait on these things but I think it's a fine idea. not sure if this would be up your alley but there's also a site Udemy that you might want to check out if you haven't heard of it where you could offer your course.

Maybe just treating it with love and a bit of sunlight for your amethyst makes all the difference
