Well,in my experience, family. If something goes wrong, they usually will always be there for you.
I am male so it might not resonate with you.

Are you able to give more context?

Also when you say love of your life, do you mean your own life or a partner?

Your love of your life is your love of your family. It's one and the same thing. One did not come before the other. They are both simultaneously co-existing.

That wasn't clear to me either. I am assuming a partner.
And it indeed requires context.
There is no one answer to this, it will depend on the circumstances. I will not just drop my partner. If I would, I'd not be a very good partner myself.
Being partners means you support each other, are there for one another, through thick and thin.
There may be situations where this is different, depending on the how and what and why.
I would not appreciate nor want a partner either who'd drop me just like that.

And also, you cannot place these together and ask someone to choose between them. A partner fulfils an entirely different role in our lives than family.

Most people believe that there are some things worth dying for; these are very altruistic people, many who everyday put their lives on the line for others. They leave their family and go out into harms way. Law enforcement, military members, firefighters, and more recently medical people who are on the front-lines working with infected and sick COVID-19 patients.

Some may call it being a martyr but actually it is altruistic to give your life for someone else, family or not. Then there are those who are selfish, they think only of themselves and their own survival, but if those people were in trouble themselves, about to lose their life, they would expect for someone else to come and save them, even if that other person has to put their life in danger to save them. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Bible quote paraphrased: "there is no greater love than to lay down your life for another."
