Color One Tin Soldier

This song has always affected me strongly, but I haven't heard it in years & the other morning while I was taking my kids to school, it came on the radio & it was all I could do to NOT burst into tears.

ONE TIN SOLDIER
(The Legend of Billy Jack)
words and music by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter

MG please tell me what about this song touch you so with tears. I particularly like the part where the valley people thought there was gold in them there hills.
When they uncovered the rock of peace, hopfully realizing peace on earth is worth far more than silver and gold.

Thank you MG for sharing One Tin Soldier.

Love to all

Why tears? The main message of course....that peace on earth is worth far more than what some people consider precious & valueable. The valley people attacked the mt people despite their willingness 'to share the wealth.' The valley people didn't want to share...completely blinded by greed. And then the lines :
Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end.

It makes me sick that so many people hurt each other in the name of God. They're reaching for the 'promised land' and because they believe their way is the RIGHT way....they seem to think that those who don't follow their path are 'expendable.' And that depresses me.

So in short...the tears are because of the truths in the song.

Thanks for the reminder Mother Goose, I always liked that song too. And you're right, the line "Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end" really is a powerful message. All these years later, I wonder if anything much has changed?
