Sage Vasistha on the four paths to enlightenment...

The Yoga Vasistha is a discourse between the Avatar Rama as a young prince of fourteen, and the sage Vasistha.

Sage Vasistha states that there are four gate-keepers at the entrance to the realm of freedom : Satsang or holy company, inquiry, self-control and contentment.

Sage Vasistha elaborates on these teachings here.

Namaste.

This is a very timely reminder that the mind becomes conditioned through experience, and the goal is to break out of that limited conditioning, by going out of one's comfort zone to seek those experiences which do not delimit or define the individual.

As hard and harsh as it is, even our family, friends and those we love can keep us trapped in ignorance due to this self serving desire, so the test of true love, is to be able to move on without them if they are using the love you have for them against you, in order to keep you in karmic bondage.

Many of our activities are performed through unconscious rote or habit and self-inquiry isn't so much asking "who am I?" but "is my behavior and vasanas conducive to my spiritual growth or not?" and if one still indulges in these desires, knowing they are not, it is the height of self-delusion and everything else just becomes an excuse.

Aum Namah Shivaya

I love the Yoga Vashistha and it's good to be reminded that Vasishtha also points to the "purity of heart" path that I personally espouse.

As Lord Jesus also said, "Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God". So it is !
