Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted, but to weigh

What if forums would post this motto, and forumites would heed it?
“Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted, but to weigh and consider.”
Sir Francis Bacon
... not on Earth.

What if?

How can you "Read not to contradict or confute" and still "weigh and consider"?

So....if taking up the spirit of the quote I can't comment on Sir Francis though
I have to presume you mean the philosopher, not the artist.

I can't therefore come in to save his bacon....on such a site I may get grilled.

For contrarians this would be a wise statement, indeed
In the circles of academic ego, that was 'his crowd', he ran across many he would like to say this to, I'm sure.
People on this forum generally, 9 out of 10 xs, do not read to confute...my experience.
Most are sweet and use their heads....and ask sincere questions.

City-Data forum...whole diff story...full of debaters and contrarians.
