Victory of desire
I have had an insight into the process of spirituality and life in general. Many people go through life attempting to turn their desire into victory. When desire achieves victory it is a huge release for the person involved.
People attempt to bring desire to victory by many methods; such as sex, earning money, shopping, marriage etc. etc. In the West the spirituality is geared to bringing desire to victory. In the East the spirituality is geared to cancellation of desire which then brings victory.
If you have ever felt your desire achieve victory you will know what I mean. Orgasm is such an instance of desire achieving victory. Enlightenment is obviously a supreme case of desire achieving victory - by the process of cancellation of desire.

Sell all that you have and give it to the poor
follow me and I will show you how to save your life by loosing it
and not to love your own life unto death.
Rough quotes of the Christ Jesus comes to mind.

Yes they are desires but it makes victory paradoxical.

Why do you call them desires? Are they not more wholesome than that?

Everything you do is a desire, an action that requires an outcome. A desire is like a seed of potential.
There's nothing wrong with desires, it's where they lead you that can make them wrong and becoming attached to them causes suffering.
You seem to think that to become ' Enlightened ' you need to eliminate desires, which is also a desire, the desire to eliminate desires

I've read Bhagavad Gita so I know how they value eliminating desires. After a lifetime though I still find it ever present in my life and I have instead learned to value my current feelings, whatever they may be.

Desire that is in-and-of the material and sensual nature leads to bondage in the physical and necessary suffering because it is inherently limiting. So the so-called victory of desire is an imprisonment in the physical.
Desire for the Divine by contrast, is not the same thing.
That "desire" is really a spiritual aspiration that originates in, is enabled through, and eventually is a victory for the Divine, which is LIBERATING.
Big difference!!
